Spike's CAR-1 Without Crush Washer?
Anybody with a CAR-1 experience any loosening issues when installed without the crush washer?

Yep. I had it just tight enough to get the lettering to line up. It was perfect. Then I shot a magazine through her and it would spin almost an extra 1/4 turn (unlike materials and vibrations??). It's kind of difficult to find a washer that will fit over the threads, inside the shroud, and only take away a 1/4 turn. I didn't want it any thicker because it made the "can" stick out a little further and I'm a picky ***. I ended up making one out of some rubber like material I found out in the garage.
As I was posting this, I found something. Too bad I didn't see these last time I ordered.

Great advice. Thanks for the thread. I'll be heading over to Spike's to pick the can and alignment set on Thursday!

In other words, the device you buy needs to have 1/2x28" threading.

Gopher - Thanks for the info. Just ordered a CAR-1 and alignment set. Hopefully the shroud will still lie inside the guard rail.

It should, but keep us updated. I'll wait to order mine until then.

So is the consensus that this washer set will work better than the crush washer? When I use the crush washer the engraving lines up poorly.

I've never put mine on with a crush washer. I wanted it to be recessed inside the handguard. It lined up perfectly without any washer, but not after the first few shots. The washers I posted from Spikes should allow you to choose what works. I'm sure with the right combination you can get it to line up perfectly, stay tight, and still have it recess. If you want to use them in addition to the crush washer(behind), that would work also(in theory ).
Stay tuned

Just installed my CAR-1 and I needed to use 4 of the 45 degree washers from the alignment kit to get the engraving to line up. With the 4 washers the shroud is still recessed inside the handrail, but barely...probably 1/8th of an inch at most. However, the end of the barrel is now also recessed into the shroud by that same amount with one line of thread showing.

thanks for the info ECLIPZD95! I picked up a CAR-1 w/ the alignment kit from Spike's yesterday afternoon. I used the 4 washers as you suggested; made for an easy install
