Default Suppressors

Hi I'm pretty new to the AR platform, but I just recently mounted a nikon bdc reticle scope and that is the only mod I have. Next I was hoping to mount a suppressor but I have no idea how to go about it. I mounted the scope myself but I need to know what to do to prep the rifle for a suppressor. Any ideas?

If your barrel is threaded(has a flash hider) then its prepared for a can... If your wanting a real can, paper work is taking about 7 months right now so you have plenty of time to deck out your new toy. The paperwork isnt bad for a form 4(purchasing through dealer) or form 1(building yourself) its almost the same process. Hope this answers your question

^yup what they said above. find a local shop who deals with them or there are a few online stores that are very helpful with the whole process. you're looking at the paperwork, $200 tax stamp, cost of suppressor and then waiting several months before you have it in your hand.

im contemplating one as well and have it narrowed down to the silencerco sparrow and swr spectre 2, just waiting to take the plunge.

sparrow - shorter, better looking (subjective), quieter on 15-22, slightly easier to clean.

spectre ii - cheaper, less frp.

i want the sparrow but not sure its worth the extra $100 or so.

I took the plunge and bought the Spectre II.....I'm just waiting on my stamp now....I got to take one on a test run and its pretty damn quiet to me, I think I'm gonna be very happy with it.

It's only money. They make more all the time. Get the suppressor.

Get it rated for .223 and then buy a "real" AR later and use the suppressor on that as well

Don't mean to change the subject, but it seemed like a convenient place to ask. When going through the process, do you pay for the stamp/suppressor when filling out the paperwork or after its approved?

You send in the money along with the paperwork.

Have you contacted gunsmiths in your local area? In my area, there are several and they charge between $70 to $100.

So does anyone have one they would recommend if I wanted to be able to use it on my 15-22, Sig mosquito, and possibly my sport? Going on the sport wouldn't matter as much to me, but I really am looking for something to be interchangeable between the 15-22 and mosquito

ive done a ton of research lately and personally id go with either the silencerco sparrow or swr spectre ii. now the same company and customer service is supposedly great. both perform great with stainless internals that can be taken apart for cleaning. spectre is 1" longer but $100 cheaper is about the main difference. there are cheaper options that will do the job but these are 2 of the best.

I went with the SWR Spectre II.

Should be home in a month or so. No first round pop and slightly more Db reduction.

yup thats something i forgot to mention. the sparrow has first round pop - the first round is usually 3-5 db louder. not that much overall but some people would rather have no frp so thats another plus for the spectre.

since Im a im a FFL(07)SOT and can build and sale these I will add to this alittle. Most get cault up in which can is the quietest, which I refer to as DB drag racing. Its like going to a electronics place and seeing all the TVs side by side, there is no doubt which one has the better pic in your mind as soon as you see them. With that said once you get home it really doesnt matter because its not setting beside all the other TVs for comparison. And Its way better than your old one.

So the real comparison is between companies. If I was buying a new can for a rimfire. The first thing id look at is if the company offered a can that can be taken apart for cleaning cause they do need to be cleaned and what its made out of. I would want something that is going to last cause the paperwork takes forever to get a replacement if this one doesnt last. Not to mention the cost

What im saying is dont get cault up in DB drag racing cause temp change, humidity, ammo and host weapon all change the DB level. FRP isnt a big deal either alittle wire pulling gel or water fixes that.

Both the cans mention are great pieces but dont let a rating number be the deciding facture. Do your home work or have one custom built to your specs. Make sure you will be happy with every part of the can (price, looks, servicablity, materials, and DB).

My last customer wanted all Titanium with exception of the blast baffle and it was inconel (spelling). While this is extreme over kill for a rimfire can the customer wanted something to pass down to his family for years to come..
