what am I doing wrong?
Ok, so I ordered up the Tacticool barrel nut adapter, along with the wrench....I am trying to install a 9" Troy TRX battle rail with the troy nut....
I thread on the adapter...in the correct direction....I try to thread on the Troy barrel nut....super tight....I put it in the vise and thread it on....very slowly....I finally get it all the way to the end and the damn rail won't go flush with the reciever, there is about 1/4" or more gap....anybody got any ideas? I will get a couple of pics after dinner....I'm flustered and hungry.

I watched an install on the youtube and at the end the guy said there is alittle tab in front of the magwell (i think) you need to grind down for a fit... Check yours to see if it is the same.
Check out this video on YouTube:

Yugo has it right. There is some material that hangs out that you will have to remove to get a flush fit. The thread was recent with the video, check the first few pages of the forum.
Yup, here's the thread with the video
Installed Troy Rail on 15-22. Thanks Tacticool22

Nope, that was the first thing I did, I broke out the dremel and some small files and got them flush...its like the barrel nut doesn't screw in far enough.

Watch the video... The guy had to lightly scrap down the threads to get a smooth easy threading of the nut...you may be correct about not being threading on far enough

If you want the Troy rail to fit flush against the upper you will need to remove 1/2 of the bottom plastic key from the upper receiver and some material from the bottom of the Troy rail.

here is what I have so far...as you can see, i've filed down the keys, threaded on the adapter and then the barrel nut...it just doesn't seem to go down far enough to seat the rail
This is as far as it will fit....

Ok, so I got a new adapter and a replacement barrel nut from Troy, I install the adapter with locktite, and after letting it sit, I apply some anti-seize to the threads and starting working on the barrel nut, after about 30 mins of just back and forth screwing....I am still stuck with a damn 1/4" gap....why does mine not go flush with the upper receiver???

I can't tell from the pic, but did you screw the adapter on with the largest end towards the upper?
Is there something in the way inside the troy rail?
The end of the threads should be flush with the end of the barrel nut, just like in the pic of the free float hand guard.
You can see in the last pic all the closer the converter nut gets to the upper, It almost touches the timing lugs for the factory hand guard.

Can you get a pic with the handguard and AR nut off so we can try to see what is going on?
