OD GREEN 15-22
Hey guys new to the forum. I think Iam going to pull the trigger on Monday on a OD green 15-22. How come I can't find the gun On S&W website?????? Is it a special edition or left over from another year??? The gun is at ACADEMY.

Hello Diesel, Welcome!. I am also new to the forum, lots of nice people here, great forum!
Never seen a Factory OD Green 15-22, go for it!, I am sure it will look very nice. Almost went that color with my rail covers, but then I would have to buy the OD pistol grip and stock, so I just went black on black.

I believe the OD Edition was an Academy only edition.

Will Academy do FFL transfer? We don't have any round these parts... And a green one would round out the collection nicely.

I like the look of the green ones.
The only thing left green would be the upper and lower though.

That I can't answer for you as we don't have them around here also. One call should take care of that though.

i have a green 15-22 from academy and love it. from what i can gather online, there were only about 300 or so made for academy. not sure if that number is accurate but i did see another green at my academy after i bought mine.
btw its not an exact match for most od greens though. its a big more green that od and a bit darker than foilage if that makes sense. i should have taken a pic with the magpul xtm panels to show but didnt.

Thanks for the replies guys looks like I will be picking it up Monday. I have 3 academy's close to me that all have at least 3 in stock. I can ask about a transfer for those of you who are interested in one.

Yeah, Magpul's OD does seem closer to a slightly darker Foilage than real OD.

yes it does. mine was really tough and i had to order the barrel vise clamps from jody at tacticool22.com so my gun shop could get it off. then i threw on one of his barrel shrouds cause i love the look.

I have not read good things about the Sig 1911 or Mosquito. From all the research I've done, it looks like the M&P .22 is the way to go for a .22 pistol if you're not wanting a Ruger.

not saying you're wrong but ive done a ton of research as well in the last couple of weeks. the sig is a rebranded gsg and while there have been some issues, ive seen a lot more positive than negative. the mosquito and walther p22 do seem to have mixed reviews though. the m&p and ruger look to be the better of the polymer .22s, that or go with a target browning or ruger.
personally i want something more "fun" than the target guns. i held all of them last night after i put 200 rds through the 15-22 at my range. the walter and ruger are small but the ruger still feels good. the m&p feels real comfortable and while the sig/gsg is the heaviest, it comes in green and has 3 dot sights.

Although I had three other .22 pistols, I really didn't have a plinker so I bought an SR22P back in January. It's another "fun" gun. It's a great first gun and has several good safety features for the new shooter.
A BIG plus is it's the easiest semi-auto I have to strip and clean - lock the slide back, flip down the take-down lever and slide the slide off the frame. Do the reverse to re-assemble. A wonderful change from the MK series. Around here it goes for $290.
Never shot the M&P, but I hear good things about it, too.

I have the Sig 1911 and absolutely love it, haven't had any problems with it, although i get a FTF once in a while with Federal bulk. I like it because it feels like my .45 1911. My brother has the Walter and has had a lot of problems with it, to the point he went out and got a Buckmark.

Two other comments about the Sig 1911. I am not 100% sure, but I think that even though it is made by GSG, it has better internals. The second and something that is definately bad about both is you can't find extra mags and when you do they are around $30.

ya i like the sr22 for the size and ease of use. would be a good gun to get my gf shooting more although i know im going to use the gun a lot more. the m&p feels great and would be good practice for my xd's but its only a single dot up front. the sig would satisfy my 1911 curiosity i think since thats all i hear about on some forums.

The sights on the SR22 are not bad. The rear sight is fully adjustable. I've got probably 500 rounds through it without any complaints. The double action trigger is very heavy but the single action is not too bad and is rather smooth, all things considered. I haven't put the TP gauge on it yet.

ya i like that they're 3 dot. unfortunately the range i go rents one with a laser and no sights but it will still allow me to test most of the gun out.

just an excuse to buy more mags.
oh and fyi, you guys are a terrible influence! shooters here in jax is the biggest ne fl store and beats just about everyone, id definitely recommend them. had to stop by my gf's doc on the way home which was 5 mins away. figured i swing in and found the od sig 1911 .22 on sale for $399 with a free 2nd mag. cant say no to that so the gf said its my early bday present.

Woady, that 15/22 looks nice. Real nice.
I like the use of assault pods for .22 ammo. I'll have to loo into that. Prefer any specific brand? Are they 300 round pods? How many .22's fit in them?
I think I'll be stealing that idea

Mine came with Sig Sauer embossed on the grip, have they changed or were the U.S. grips aftermarket?
What grips do you have on it now? They look good!

thanks! since that pic ive moved the red dot forward to center over the magwell, moved the rvg back a bit for stability, added beltfed's charging latch and the ambi safety. pretty happy with how it sits right now.
when i got my rifle case, i was looking for some rectangular cases that would fit in the mag pouches for ammo when i stumbled upon my old paintball stuff in the garage. they're 100 rd pods and hold about 450-475 rds. not sure on the brand but ive got one loaded with federal bulk for indoor and the other with cci tactical or long distance outdoor. maybe i need to start selling "w0ady's .22 ammo pods".

they came with the US grips. i googled some pics and saw the grips you're talking about though. i picked up the hogue wraparound grips at shooters because they're amazingly comfortable. the finger cuts make the most difference for my larger hands vs the flat front handle. that and the rubber just sticks to your fingers. i also ordered some similar pearce grips with the finger inserts and the more classic side panels in black rubber. i prefer the classic panel look but if they're not as comfortable, ill just stick with the hogue.

yup both the gsg and sig have the same threaded barrel. it comes with a wrench to remove the threaded cover that is hidden under the slide. you have to buy an adapter in order to fit a 1/28 thread suppressor. gemtech and a few other companies make some quality ones for relatively cheap.

off topic again but i was so proud that i swapped to the pearce modular grip on my 1911. 3 pieces - 2 classic side and the front cuts. i prefer the classic look better and its still comfy with the cuts.
