So for those of you that bought the P22 scope, did you go with the BDC or Nikoplex reticle and why? Are you happy with your choice or do you wish you'd picked the other? Thanks in advance!

I got the Nikoplex. I do not personally like the little circles under the cross hairs. I'd rather change the turret to the proper yardage. My 15-22 will be used by my 2 young kids, wife, and myself for mostly shooting at 50 yards and in. It's more for plinking, and having fun around our lease property in the off season.

I didn't get either, but I looked at both. I would have gotten normal crosshairs. I originally thought that the little circles would/could be set (or stood for) nice even distances, like 25, 50 and 100 yards. I found out that you have to use their calculator to determine what they stand for, then make a note to carry with you that they stand for 100, 207,295, 345 (all examples I've made up). And those will all vary with the ammo you're using. I'd just as soon write down clicks of correction for each distance I'm using. But that's me.

I got the Nikoplex. Mainly because I don't like "busy"reticles and I'm quite comfortable twisting turrets.(been a varmint for hunter many moons) I don't regret getting the plain ol' cross hair at all.

I also bought the Nikoplex version. I looked through both and I just liked the Nikoplex reticle better.

BDC for sure... if not for the app alone...

At the range, I have 50, 75, and 100yd targets and I use the Nikon SpotOn app on my iPhone to calibrate. Super easy to use and now I consistently hit 3-inch metal targets at 50, 75, and 100 in one magazine without having to turn dials and recalibrate anything.

I am using the ProStaff 4-12x model

First….I do 90% of my shooting in the dessert…true plinker style….POINT, AIM, FIRE, repeat if necessary until target is hit, destroyed, or dead, whatever the case may be. I do not consult my lap top or phone before each shot.

With that said I chose the BDC reticule and I love it. Because that other 10% of the time, like when I am zeroing the scope, I can “GEEK OUT” and use my phone or lap top with the Spot On software. It is pretty cool because what it does for me is it helps me gain a greater understanding of ballistics and the science behind the rifle ,scope, and bullet. The odd numbers referred to above don’t bother me. They come into play because the software is making calculations for you based on true math and factory ballistic data. It can be set up so the BDC dots represent something like 50, 100, and 150 yards for the real world, but it’s going to give you the exact numbers.

So….after going through the routine…learning and testing things. I go back to POINT, AIM, FIRE!!! Repeat if necessary. There is no reference card in my pocket and my phone gets turned off so no one can bother me during my precious hours in the dessert.

Like Hoons so nice showed everyone the BDc is one great way to go and as Phx says using the BDC Circles and Spot On gives you exact numbers for the data you enter. I use it on all my hunting rifles and have never ben let down. Yes, I'm a bit bias, but believe me, I wouldn't be if it didn't work. Some guy's say they can't get past the "busy" reticle, but I've taken many ex-military guy's shooting who now own a NikonScope with BDC reticle.
Just in case some of you didn't know, there's a Promo. going on right now that includes ALL BDC reticle scopes. Who doesn't like to save some $ ?

I have the BDC reticle because I'm old and might forget to to turn the turret before taking a shot.

If my shooting was all at the range I would probably get the Nikoplex and BDC turret.

I have the P22 with Nikoplex, which works perfectly well for my shooting--20 to occasional 100 yards. If I were shooting at longer distances, I would probably use the BDC. Plus BDC is way too complicated for my simple mind

I just ordered the BDC version. I do mostly range shooting at 100 yards and less. I am now questioning my decision? Would I be better off with the Nikoplex?

Full discloure - I bought the BDC for the rebate and because it was specific for a .22 load. Previously, I was strickly a crosshair scope shooter. I too had concerns about the scope being too "busy" but after a couple of range sessions I honestly have 0 issue with the circles and they seem tiny when I am actually shooting, as oppsoed to a .gif of the rectical on the Nikon site. Regarding the circles not matching marks at specific intervals - while they are not dead on at common intervals as mentioned above, I am actually surprised at how close my set up gets me all the way out to 150 yards. I personally feel it makes hold over shooting (which I am used to) much easier. Previous rifle work with a bolt .22 and a good knowledge of the .22s trajectory helps me alot though, YMMV. The spot on program also does help alot however not enough that I would pay to get the app on my iphone (isn't free with the BDC???) I do use the online version frequently and shoot the same rounds consistantly (CCI-mini mags 40g CPRN) so at this point I know my round, range and setup pretty well. I am sighted at 25 yards and at the long range (200y) on 7x I am just about dead on at 50yds on the top of first circle, 75yds dead on in the middle of the second circle, and 100yds dead on at the bottom of the third. 125yds sits at the bottom of the 4th circle. 150yds is just at or under the broad part of the bottom hair and is a little more tricky - but IMHO .22s really aren't for anything other than paper targets at that distance, so you can afford a few shots to walk yourself in. I can shoot the same hole @ 25 yards and am happy with a group I can cover with my hand @ 100 set this way, which I think is right on par with what would be a reasonable expectation of this scope, rifle and round, again your milage and opinion may vary.

Bottom line is I am beyond please with this scope (P-series rings also) and would definitly do it again if I had the choice. I have 3 other rifles and all have Leopuld scopes.

Definitely utilizing Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to enhance your BDC reticle is a smart thing. Yes, FREE at Nikonhunting.com, but $4.99 I believe for your phone or tablet. Lot's of great infor mation can be had even if you don't use a BDC reticle scope.

If you haven't already bought it, I'd consider the ProStaff 3-9x40 with BDC reticle (same price as the P22). It's a better scope simply because you get more power from it and a bigger objective (the muzzle end of the scope), thus providing a better sight picture.

The only thing you're giving up when you get the Prostaff are the tactical turrets. Both the P22 and the Prostaff have return-to-zero and both focus at the ocular. If you want to, you can have tactical turrets added later.

The P22 is nothing more than their shotgun scope with different turrets and reticle.

I just ordered a BDC about 1hr ago. I originally wanted the Nikoplex but it wasn't on the rebate. I will post a report when I am able to take it to the range.

Bart, I take it your a Nikon Rep? I have a question about Spot On. There is a very large selection of amo to choose from but Blazer is not one of them. Why is such a popular round not there even when some of the specialty rounds are? And of the rounds I can pick from which would be the closest to Blazer?

I have the BDC retical and love it Its super fast, something about the circle draws my eyes in much faster then a crosshair. I put clay targets at 25-50-75-100 and hit allmost 100% of the time, at 100 I can bust a clay into 50 cent size peices. My gun a Spikes upper with a Walther barrel is the most accurate 22lr Ive ever owned I shoots Win Dynapoint GTs very well.

I shoot tactical .22 at my club and the BDC is certainly the way to go. Over 4 stages we shoot anywhere from 20 to 100 yds and we are on the timer with as many as 15 targets per stage. On our 4th stage we will go out to 100 and as close as 25. The BDC allows me to zero at say 25 and use the ballistic calculator to know which bubbles to use for the different yardages. We would never have time to spin turrets while shooting a stage. This is why I like the BDC reticle, and I love the P-22.
