15-22 stripped upper
Anyone hear of anyone selling a stripped upper for the 15-22. I emailed S&W and they said they do not sell it as a part.

Considering that no other upper will fit the 15-22 lower and the number of folks who want one to make an SBR upper out of it, I doubt you'll ever find one available.
Supposedly Plinker Tactical has a metal upper under development, but considering their track record to date with their existing products, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it - or for it to be functional.

I can't imagine that the upper would be all that much cheaper than a complete rifle.

Stripped uppers for AR15s go for $60 to $150+. Much cheaper than a complete rifle.
If S&W sold them for the 15-22, I doubt it would be more than $50.

I was thinking a complete upper. Would we be able to swap out the barrels on ours for something else? I kinda figured the upper was a package. Seeing as how you cant really disassemble it past field stripping.

There is a company making match barrels (Lothar?) but they are half the cost of a new firearm.

With a barrel vice and a barrel tool, you can.
COMBO - Barrel Nut Wrench (Pro) for S&W M&P 15-22 and Vise Jaws [COMBO - BNW-2-A and BVJ-1] - $49.95 : Tacticool22, Tactical .22 Rifle Parts and Accessories
If you haven't looked at Joel's site, do so. He has lots of neat stuff and is great to deal with.

I wouldn't say you can't really disassemble the rifle.

They don't sell uppers? Really? Weird because they sold me one for $20
They do sell them and if you do some searching on here you will even find the part number for it. Order it by part number, the S&W CS folks aren't gun smiths and as such may not know the proper lingo (S&W does not call it an "upper")

Brett248Vista do you still have the part number i've looked and can not find it, probaly don't know how to properly search. I've not been able to find a exploded view to find part number on the internet either. Like I said i've contacted SA&W and they were no help. Paul Gazda from Customer Service said they didn't sell it.

had a idiot moment with one of my 3 rifles. was changing the wife's flash hinder she wanted a new one. I have swapped out on my other 2 in the past. well put in barrel vise and it didn't come loose like the other 2. re-clamped down harder and idiot me grabbed the receiver and held it.
flash hinder came off but the BARREL ALSO turned in the upper and is no longer lined up properly.......
Guess ill have to send it into them to have a new upper put on the bbl and hand guard.
I emailed Customer Service and was just told so ship it in.
and its PINK CAMO..... argh stupid moment.

If that's on a 22lr keep an eye on the exhaust ports, they will fill up with carbon and lead over time if you don't keep after it.

Throw a can of PAM (yes the cooking stuff you spray on pans) and spray the comp with it. Sounds ridiculous but if done semi-regularly it will keep crud from building up and work its' way under and let old build-up loosen and blow off.

Doesn't sound ridiculous at all, a lot cheaper then some of the mystery snake oils that allegedly should do the same thing.
Some are 10 bucks an ounce, gzzzzz.....

Now if some one could come up with the number for the M-lok hand guard I would be a happy camper.

I have one of the original quad rails but I'm in the UK. If you are in the US it might be a problem.
