Default Bulpup V4

I have been out of the country for a while but now I am back and am picking up where I left off. V4 is in the photos attached and is a fully functioning weapon. It is made out of black Nylon and is very tough and durable. Still tweaking a few things but its pretty much there. This is my first time machining Nylon so there are a couple of things I have learned. First is my machine has a bad bearing and second something happened when I re-zeroed and tried to re-cut the name on one side because it missed its mark. Oh well I guess there will be a V5.
Someone had made a comment about my cheap optics so for these pictures I chose to update them. It works well and feels really good so I am quite happy at this point so I thought it was time to share.

Thanks everyone. I was working on a internal forward charging handle but the external works so well the internal is on hold for now.
I had to get a new router for my CNC because the bearing spun and ruined the shaft. I will have to cut another one (V5) to be sure all the minor changes were made correctly and to see if the new router cuts better. I had too much chatter on the last one which could have been the bad router or the resolution of the stepper motors. Anyway I think this will be the final step in the development stage. Next I will have to send one off, without the trigger group cut, to the government and ask the question, " is this a gun" . Hopefully the answer will be no so I can sell them. In the mean time I want to shoot the **** out of it to see how well it holds up. Work, work, work, eventually I will have fun, wait, I am having fun. Does that mean its not work?

Also find out if they are ITAR controlled. If they aren't I'll take one!

Thing is looking GREAT... i want one... But I understand you wanting to test it and the Time Constraints you may have to be able to DO SO

So I want to step up... be a BIG help... and will test it FOR YOU

Just send it to me, I have LOTS of free/inexpensive Time, and I will run it through the Ropes for ya.... Even roll around in the AZ desert for some testing

Bring it out to NM, I've got a few thousand rounds we can throw through it, and I'll make you a kick *** dinner.

LOL

I truly love it. Not that we have to worry much about recoil, but have you considered a couple of mounting points for a rubber buttpad? Something that is widely available?

If you replaced the lower receiver with a new lower, it is a firearm.

Do the paperwork and you can sell them to FFLs. I think if you manufacture less than 200, you are exempt from some taxes and regulations. Do not listen to people on this forum unless they are a firearms manufacturer. Ask your attorney before proceeding.

Not necessarily. That is why a sample is being sent to the ATF tech branch -- to determine if it is a firearm, or at which point it becomes a firearm rather than an 80% receiver. The goal is to make an 80% lower so no FFL is needed. This has been discussed in prior threads.

I'm not a fan of the bull pup configuration at all.

That said, I am amazed at your talent and skill. Your product shows a remarkable refinement and design. Very well done.

I wish you the very best in your quest to bring it to market. You certainly deserve it.

Kayback, ITAR is for international trade which I have no interest in at this time.

Stavman11, It would be great if I could loan out the bullpup to everyone but that would be unlawful. I thing the law says " for personal use only" so that means I cannot even give it to my son.

RED ZMAN, If I can get out to NM I would take you up on your offer, thanks. The butt is something I have been working on since the beginning and have it right where I want it. It is very soft, smooth and natural feeling and tends to kinda cling to you with little effort.
Wait, - - - Did that sound right?

Really good work and I'd be interested in an 80%. Might drive me to get my own drill press!

Went to the range yesterday and ran 200 rounds through the Bullpup. I expearenced one problem. It would fire the first 3 rounds and then the hammer would fall and no bang. Opening the bolt viewed that there was no round in the chamber and no round visible. Pulling down on the load assist and releasing it quickly pushed the rounds back up and visible in the chamber and able to load. This continued on with every 4th round not feeding because it wasn't there. It also happened on all my mags. Now here is the strange part. When I supported the Bullpup on the mag to steady the shot I experienced no failures.
My first thought is that the mag is somehow not inserted far enough and the bolt is just missing the round, but every 4th shot is a bit strange. The other thought is the mags are dirty. I have never cleaned them and have noticed the rounds getting caught sometimes and not sitting right at the feed lips when loading. Another note is that I had the same problem with the factory lower yesterday also.
Anybody ever have an issue like this?

Could not duplicate the issue at home but I think it was the mag catch. I put one more turn on the mag release button to tighten it up and absolutely cannot remove the mags at all from the receiver without pressing the release button so I know they are tight. Disassembled all my mags, cleaned and lubed them. I tested this with live ammo, safety on, no finger near the trigger and cycled the bolt emptying mag. Cycled perfectly with zero failures so now its off to the range again. If anyone is in south Florida and wants to try a 15-22 Bullpup let me know because I would like to know what others think.

Looks functional, but it has lost its elegant design features along the way somewhere.

Best of luck with your project.

Is there a mounting point for a single point sling? Did I just miss it? It looks great, I would camo it and spin on a can. I love bullpups and my offer to buy from V1 still stands, even if it goes to vIX. Be Safe,

The bullpup has two built in flush sling points. I have used both single and double configurations. I like the double better.

I still think the front grip should be part of the design instead of an AFG, but it looks great. Count me in when you get something you can sell. Would it mean that I made it if you loaded up the materials and I hit 'enter' online to start the CNC machine?

shawnr5, I wish it would be that easy. There are over 60 machine operations and several bit changes so its a bit more than just hitting the start button but that is a thought. Is there anybody out there that knows the legality on this issue?

Pretty sure that's a no go. I think the person making the firearm would have to be the one doing the bit changes etc. as well as actually pushing the button, otherwise it could be argued that the person didn't actually make the firearm themselves. Then person actually making it would have to mark it properly before transfer. Also, once the operation is complete you've now got a 100% firearm, and how are you going to transfer it to the person that supposedly made it by pushing the button? If it's across state lines you couldn't without going through an FFL. And an FFL won't likely transfer the firearm without the manufacturer and serial number markings. I think the simple transfer of possession even if you don't call it a transfer of ownership would be an issue, as once you transfer it, the proper markings are required. Definitely check with a lawyer if considering going this route.

Personally, an 80% lower that can be completed with a drill press and/or rotary tool would be ideal for me.

If you could build a kit to fit over the lower like these guys, Products there are few, if any, legal issues.

The big problem with that is that the 10/22 " upper" is the receiver. there is no lower receiver to deal with like the 15/22 has. the 10/22 just replaced the stock. any such system for the 15/22 would require cutting off the receiver extension and would probably be quite bulky when it was finished since it would basically cocoon the entire gun, sans stock, receiver extension and pistol grip.

Rundover, I know it isn't a simple process or likely to happen soon. I'm just saying that whenever, if ever, you have a product, count me in for one. Thanks for sharing all of your updates with us. I was also joking about the hitting start thing. Nothing is that easy when dealing with firearms and law.

Looks really great!

I used bullpups for 12 years as my primary rifle and I think it is a really great design. Never really understood why they were not more popular. Good luck getting it finished, can't wait to see how it finishes up!
