M&P15-22 Mag development

The purpose of this thread is to show the stages of product development. I have been working hard for the past 2 months developing a new magazine for the M&P15-22. To the forum moderators I'm not here selling anything just providing information and pics. I know there are several vendors and product development companies on this site that are capable of engineering new products for the M&P15-22. I will only provide basic information as I do not want to give away all my secrets at least not yet.

There are currently a handfull of companies who manufacture magazines for the M&P15-22. I know everyone feels a certain way about each company in regards to quality, capacity, availability, and pricing. Those companies include the stock Smith and Wesson 25 and 15 round mags, Promag's 32 round mag, and Plinker tactical 35 round mag. Please understand I'm not in no way shape of form trying to downplay any of these companies. I respect each one of them and their hardwork to develop new products for the us. I Welcome all comments. So without further a do, I will begin with the first step.

Step #1:

I reverse engineered each part of the Stock 25 rd S&W Magazine.

strobro32 10-31-2012 06:55 AM

What's the capacity?

Kayback 10-31-2012 07:18 AM

If these are what I think they are I'll take 5.

TacoDaTugBoat 10-31-2012 08:03 AM

Awaiting more info. As a note, S&W doesn't make 15 round mags. Their are 10 rounders and 10/25 rounders.
Looking forward to see what comes next.

Triggs75 10-31-2012 11:07 AM

Sub'd.

Keep them coming and don't forget about us Kali guys who can only have 10 round mags :(

Chad

What is the result you are looking for? Or is this a surprise thing and we all have to wait to find out ?

I will be able to supply that information when ready. Just know everyone will be happy. Trust me

TacoDaTugBoat 10-31-2012 12:56 PM

Belt feed? ;)

I'm sorry 10 round mags I'm losing my mind. Thanks for the correction. There is also a 32 and 35 round mag by promag and plinker

Oh no sir I haven't forgot about the Cali or New York guys. I'm just focused on a current design.

Well right now its a surprise, I will disclose information when ready. Figured folks would be interested in a thread regarding new product development.

No belt feeding.

Dream on. Belt feed would take a complete redesign of the 15-22's action, including the lower.

That is the kind of answer I like to hear.

Not really. It would only take minor tweaking to Lakeside Machine's existing beltfed .22LR upper to work. Too bad he is selling his company.

Note that's an upper designed specifically for belt feed. It's not a modified 15-22 upper.

DOOMSDAY TACTICAL 10-31-2012 07:34 PM

Very creative. Who is he selling the company to?

strobro32 10-31-2012 08:40 PM

I'm not sure if anyone has made an offer. He was shopping the idea around at the Creek.

Back on topic, I really like box mags for firearms. I'm looking forward to DT's design. Please keep us informed as much as possible.

Here is my first design of the new mag after I had all the dimensions on the stock mag. Let me know what you guys think. Please keep in mind this is not the final render

Majorlk 11-01-2012 05:37 PM

Looks like a magazine. :D

Kayback 11-01-2012 05:59 PM

How do you load it? Most .22 mags I've seen require the loading buttons to stop your fingers breaking.

strobro32 11-01-2012 06:00 PM

Looks like a double stack mag. :) 50 rounds would be stellar. :D In any case, I would prefer a load assist tab/button.

I agree, but if he makes a successful double-stack that will be quite an accomplishment. I've never seen a successful .22 double-stack because the rims in the two stacks interfere with each other.

wlkjr 11-01-2012 06:32 PM

Probably not legal in CA:D but I like. I hope it works and is affordable. About 3 of those would melt the barrel.

Majorlk 11-01-2012 06:43 PM

I stand corrected. First time I have been wrong ... in the last couple of hours. :D

wlkjr 11-01-2012 07:06 PM

Does this gun actually exist? I haven't been able to locate one.

mn_doggie 11-01-2012 07:27 PM

It looks like the Keltec .22WMR which is a double stack.

I don't think the magazine is for the pistol.... The magazine is made by Shooters Ridge for the 10/22

Well sir I can tell you your close and a load assist tab will not be needed. I will show you when the time is right

No breaking fingers here just time to load them

DOOMSDAY TACTICAL 11-01-2012 07:59 PM

Great find Strobro32. The Keltec pistol is a double stacked .22 cal and the stock magazine holds 30 rounds. Talk about thinking out the box

In cammo maybe?:)

I'm still debating on the exterior colors. Originally I planned on the stock mag color or the FDE. I'm thinking Cammo will be a Great look.

Triggs75 11-01-2012 11:24 PM

Very nice. Keep them coming

Chad

wlkjr 11-01-2012 11:25 PM

Black cammo.

DOOMSDAY TACTICAL 11-02-2012 01:24 AM

What about Hot Pink for the Ladies? Maybe Black cammo or Dark Earth

Ghost_Soldier 11-02-2012 01:30 AM

How about Black, Foliage Green, Flat Dark Earth, OD Green, and cammo. It would be nice to have an OD green mag to mach my furniture just like on my AR-15.

-Silver- 11-02-2012 01:54 AM

Hi-Cap I hope :)

I will buy the hot pink ones and rock them with the new pink Magpul gear I just found out about.

I have a daughter and a wife who will enjoy shooting it, and I honestly enjoy running pink guns and totally cleaning up at shooting matches. I get it is a .22, but nothing works better when people go "Hur Hur, U R Teh GayZ!" for having a pink gun and you smoke the stage clean.

I was just joking. It would be such a pain to load the belts.

Nice choice of colors. I guess I will need to conduct a poll to narrow down at least 3 colors at first.

Should I tag the Mag with a slogan (Real Men use pink mags)?

RogerDotWillson 11-02-2012 08:57 AM

Solidworks? Really? Real magazines are designed with Pro/ENGINEER... :)

Here are my three choices; stock mag color, FDE, & Cammo. No particular order
