Yes and the only reason I got some was as I was picking up my 15-22 an employee was putting out some just arrived federal 525 bulk out that was on sale @$17. It didn't last long with people taking 8-10 boxes but I got my 2 boxes at least.

I've also tried:
1. Academy Sports (All they had was CCI Tacticals, which won't shoot in my 15-22. Their shelves were bare, and they could not tell me when they might get some more)
2. Gander Mountain (no bulk ammo at all)
3. Bass Pro Shops (Again, no bulk)
4. My local LGS (said they could not get any bulk 22lr. from their supplier)
So, it appears that most folks down here are having some trouble getting any of the bulk ammo. I've got 2K rounds, so I don't want to buy the smaller quantity right now, but I would pick up some of the bulk, if I could find any

.22lr in Southwest FL is out as well.
Walmart, Dick's, Bass Pro and 4 LGS all out of anything Federal or CCI. Just placed an online order w/ Palmetto State Armory so hopefully will get that soon.

Don't count on it. I placed an ammo order with PSA 8 days ago and haven't even received an order confirmation.

Bleh. Bleh bleh bleh. LGS mark up ammo so much.. A 100pk of CCI is like $9. At walmart it's just over $7. Wal-mart or no ammo. haha

Soooo ...
No ammo at $7+ is preferable to 100 rounds at $9? I fail to understand that logic.
I guess you don't really like to shoot all that much.

Well.. If I am going to buy CCI, I want to buy in bulk, $2 difference adds up when you're buying 10+ boxes. I usually buy the federal bulk 550 pack from walmart for $19. my two local shops sell it for $25 and $28. I usually buy 5 boxes when I can... That adds up...

Story here - went to my LGS to buy a 15-22. Sales guy got it on the counter I started asking question about it, another guy walks in (note six behind the counter now and a little busy not much) clerk starts talking to him while still in front of me and new guy was at other counter, then walks away. New clerk comes over and starts talking to me about how long it might be to get nother one in, then low and behold another person comes in the store. Last I saw of him. Also note bought my wife a BG .380 (hand problems and only auto she could rack the slide on) and my S&W M&P 15 MOE a few weeks before. Needless to say last purchase there and yes I know all gun shops are not the same but this is the only one close to me about 1/2hr away.

Yea, it adds up, but again, what's better, ammo in hand for a few bucks more or no ammo to shoot at all at the cheaper price?
if you want to shoot, you pay whatever it takes.
That's why, when my LGS runs case-lot sales of Federal or Blazer a couple times a year I but a minimum of two cases - 10.5k. I never let the supply get below 5k.

I stopped by the LGS this afternoon, and sure enough the shelf was overflowing with Federal bulk pack.
At $18.99, they're about $.50 higher than the same at Walmart, but I'm not going to split hairs over the difference.

I had a bit of a problem finding .22LR at local shops trying to stock up before my 15-22 comes in. Went to 4 different WallyWorlds with ~1/3-2/5 of their ammo cabinets dedicated to .22LR and all they had left was Winchester shot rounds. Bass Pro had a few 325 boxes of CCI Tactical and a good bit Winchester Super X hollowpoints left, but probably 85% of their .22LR shelf space was sold out. The one Dick's I checked had absolutely none left. Finally found a Walmart on the outskirts that had (8) 550 boxes of Federal bulk (and a whole bunch of 250 value packs of UMC 115gr FMJ 9mm Luger which has also been annoyingly hard to find in any quantity for me of late).
I attribute it mostly to being hunting season and coming up on the holidays personally.
The LGSs that I hit up are also ranges and seem to tack on around 10-20% more margin to all of their ammo compared to big box/online retailers. Probably not as big of an issue w/ .22LR, but it's cost prohibitive for me for the 9mm.

No their not, however they are the cheapest.
My LGS gets $129.95 for the 1600 rd boxes of CCI.
But as fate would have it the LGS is out also, along with the walmarts.

Not necessarily true. It all depends upon the size of the LGS and their relationship with ammo manufacturers. When my LGS does a case-size Federal/CCI/Blazer sale, they generally have 4-5 million rounds of the stuff on hand. On any given day, they have 2-3 million rounds of ammo - all calibers - on the floor. They beat WM on a daily basis.
All that said, if WM, or anyone else, is out of stock, what difference does it make what their price is?

Largest gun store in New England. Largest Ruger dealer in the US. Largest S&W dealer in New England. I don't know how many firearms they sell a month, but there are at least 500 on the walls and in display cases at any given time. I have never heard them tell anyone, "I'm sorry, we don't have that in stock" on any of the major brands.

There you are, then...not everyone is close to a Cabela's, or a LGS as large as yours...I could say the same about Texas....MUCH LARGER than where you live, and I can shoot out my back door....no range fee, etc....but you can't do that, and have to spend the money to shoot....but you love to shoot, so you spend the money. I love to shoot, but I'm not gonna pay for that, when I can shoot out the backdoor for free....

I shoot five days a week, if I want to, for $50/year - my shooting association's dues.

My LGS charges about half again what Wal Mart charges. They also charge on average $100 more for guns then anyone else on line or in other places. So, why shop the LGS, and don't tell me because it supports the community which I wouldn't mind if they were reasonable. May be just "my" LGS because he thinks he's the only game in town, and he is, but he does take advantage of that fact. With all that said, I had bought an SR9 and an M&P 15-22 from him before I realized that i had overpaid so much. I know, shame on me!

We have plenty of .22 ammo & other cal's. in the Denver area.
But,
The last weekend Denver Gun Show there was plenty of Ammo, but,
One dealer who sells the 525 Federal at 19.00 a box, or $170 for 10 boxes, was out of stock & out of stock the last show that was November 3-4, 2012. He said he wouldn't have any at the next Show at the end of December. He mentioned his suppliers were completely out. He only sells the Federal 525 box.
Looks like some of our members are correct when they say it can't be had in their area.
Some of our local Dick's Sporting & Sport Authority our completely out of stock of all .22 ammo. Due to Black Friday sales.
I've been collecting .22 ammo since the Sixties. I don't know how many bricks I Have. All in Ammo cans. It will keep fresh as a daisy.

Fortunately, most LGS that I have ever dealt with are not like this - on guns OR ammo. On that vein, though, volume does reduce price. My big LGS probably sells more ammo than all the WM in the state of Connecticut combined. And the only thing I have ever seem them out of was .380 two years ago when there was a run on the stuff and the manufacturers hadn't produced any for a few months.

You keep talking about how big and awesome and well stocked your LGS is... not that way around here in CA and it seems, not that way for most. Most of us shop on price and no way in hell I would buy any ammo from my LGS. No way. Way overpriced.
75% of the ammo I buy is off of Craigslist.. yep, CL. I just bought 340rnds of 2 3/4 Remington shells last night delivered to my house for $125 - do the math on that score. And I score all the time on CL like that. All the time. People need cash, I buy up their ammo.
The other place I buy is the web. Far cheaper than any LGS, I can get it delievered to my house. 9mm, 40cal, 223/5.56, 22lr.. you can find deals on the web all day long with free shipping and just always the best price for volume as I always buy volume. Never ever a box here or there.
Seems the internet is my very own version of your awesome LGS except mine delivers.

I freely admit that I am in a better position than most, but I find it had to believe that my LGS is the ONLY one like it in the country. I simply DON't Believe it! I think most shooters don't bother to find them.
If you are happy with your situation, good for you. And I really mean that; not being sarcastic.
I buy in volume, too. Never saw the advantage of dinky little boxes.

I assume you LGS is Hoffman’s Gun Center. As per Shooting Industry Magazine “Ruger has named Hoffman’s Gun Center & Indoor Shooting Range of Newington, Conn., as its 2011 Retailer of the Year”, and as per Hoffman’s Gun Center web site since 1919, Hoffman's Gun Center has been known as the home of "Guns for the Good Guys." As the largest gun shop in New England.
Where I live we don’t have the largest gun shop around so their prices are well above WM prices. Wish I had a large gun shop around (excluding the one I had problems which is big for us but only about 1000sf), with better prices but we don’t. I would rather give my money to them then to WM but WM is cheaper that everyone close to me even some internet business but run out of ammo fast.
I agree if you want to shoot then pay the price. If you want to hoard then wait for the sale or product to come in stock my supply has gotten slim down to about 15,000 rds of various caliber. To me every dollar I have counts so yes I will wait for the best price to build my stock up. For every $2.00 I save I will put it towards the next box I want to purchase, it add up, but when it comes time to shoot I might even go to the highest priced business around GM and bite the bullet, no pun intended. For a weekend outing it might cost $10.00 more but look at the fun you are having then think about what you would be doing if you weren’t shooting, was it worth the extra $? Just my .02

That's the situation in my little town - shotshells and .308 and .270 galore, not much else. Although it has just been turned into a super WM, so that might change. I'll have to check, just for the fun of it.

Yup, you are correct. The place really has to be seen to believe the inventory and prices. Their indoor range, on the other hand, charges more than I would want to pay, but the range is always full and it is pretty much equal, price-wise to the private-property ranges, both indoor and outdoor - and it IS indoor.
My range (15 minutes from my house) is a 100-yard outdoor range and I pay $50/year shooting association dues. It's members-only during the week, so I never have a problem finding an open port. One of the benefits of being retired.
Lest anyone mis-understand, I have NOTHING against buying ammo at WM, if that's where the best prices are in a given area and they have what one wants. My problem is with folks who complain they can't go shooting because WM is out, yet there is a local gun store with ammo in stock, albeit somewhat higher in price than WM, and they won't pay the difference of a couple of dollars a box. They'd rather complain online about the unfairness of it all, than go shooting, I guess.

1 time I have seen a shop of this size, stock.. in Denver. It was awesome. Like that scene in the Terminator where everything you could want was on the shelves. Just not so in locked down CA (or rare I should say). Heck, we only have 1 range within like 50+ miles. And it is indoors and so crowded because of the limitations on choice here.
I love it in CA, love it. I can run on the beach in the winter and wear t-shirts year around. BUT as a gun owner, they make it hell on us. It is the one thing I long for when I read about what you have.

I live in California too. But, the beach is not close. Although, I can go shooting for free (just not during the fire season) within a few miles of my home. As for ammo, I have two Super Walmart stores nearby that always seem to stock some kind of .22 ammo, a local LGS (not my favorite place), and a Big 5. So, if I don't care about price, I'll shop at these places. But, I'd much rather shop online for ammo, while naked at my computer...oops, I meant from the comfort of my home in my pajamas. I buy ammo from whatever place has free shipping at the time, and that is usually Palmetto State Armory in S. Carolina.

Range around the corner from me (also 10-15 min from home)has up to 400 meters. You can shoot anything you want execpt RPG's. They will even rent you a full auto. Not really cheap $400 a year for family but for me only option unless I drive 3hrs to Grandpop's 150 acres. You are one up on me with the GS but I live in a gun friendly state wouldn't trade that. Yea being retired is great if only my employment hadn't messed with my health (fed research lab). Cheers

I happened to be in wally world today (rare occasion) and they were pretty well wiped out of much of their ammo. Don't think they had any 22LR at all! Obammy must be selling it faster than the ammo companies can turn it out.

Well, I finally bought a couple boxes online at Gander Mountain. I paid a ridiculous $48 for two boxes of federal champions (525 per box). Gander ships free, but charges a $5 ammo processing fee.

Bummer
I've never seen the .22lr go before the .45acp, 9mm, and 5.56. Still haven't.
When all I can find is Golden Box, I'll stop stocking up on .22lr and start drinking again

I went to Cabela's in Hartford Thursday. Not surprisingly, there was no shortage of .22 LR - Federal, CCI, Remington and Winchester. Stopped by Hoffman's on the way home and they had two shelves of CCI, but no Federal, which IS unusual.
I haven't looked at WalMart, so I don't know if they are in the same boat as other parts of the country.

This I don't understand, unless the sporting goods manager(s) just don't want to be bothered and have stopped ordering. Based on what I have seen in Cabela's and a couple of other local gun stores, there appears to be no shortage on the production end.

It's a conspiracy
They're creating a reason to price gouge when they all of the sudden have cases and cases of the stuff.

The prices here are the same as they have been for months.

Try sgammo.com or targetsportsusa.com. There are others as well - no shortage or gouging.
I think unfounded, false rumors and fearful individual hording is likely creating various local problems. The world will never lack them.
Panic is optional!

I've talked to a couple LGS. One is completely out and the other manages to have it trickle in. The local sporting goods store has a lot of empty space where .22lr goes. And like I said, Walmart's been out for weeks. Maybe it's something local (regional?). My FIL in Minnesota report plenty on the shelves there. It's warmer here in West Texas, so maybe more people are out shooting...or maybe hoarding...dunno...

I just ordered from Cabelas and had it in 5 days. No shipping if order is over $99. They seem to stock Fed Champion. The pricing is cheaper than WM if you order enough to get the free shipping.

I can usually find the 525 bulk box for $20-$25, but every store is sold out... Even online. They say backordered, anywhere from Feb 2013 to April 2013. I did find it at a couple places, but they wanted $15 or more for shipping.
What in the world is going on?!?!?!?!

I like the Fed. Champ also. I just ordered a case from my LGS for $189.00 + 7% tax. I had it three days later.
I have seen that Wally World runs out of certain ammo a lot.
In thinking about it. I figure it is their inventory system. They probaly have deals with the ammo makers for a certain min. order qty, for the best price. So some stores may be out and others have plenty. When their over all inventory level it at the reorder point they buy and restock inventory locations that are low or out. Just my thoughts.
I highly recommend that you talk to your LGS. I told mine that I would buy my ammo from him if he always gave me a great deal. I buy by the case and pay upon ordering, so no risk to him.
He can usally have anything I want in two or three days. I know that funds are sometimes short and you just want a bulk box. He is not good at that, unless you don't care what brand.

I've figured it out... Everybody's shooting 15-22's and it's caused a shortage... we've shot ourselves in the foot... Time to increase production... I guess we're actually helping the economy...

Went back to the farm supply store this weekend where i had
bought two Federal champion 525 mini-bricks last week for 19.99
each. They had 8 on the shelf then. And this week there was none.
They still had 50 bxs. of rem. gold tips but i won't shoot those
anymore. Also had 50 bxs. of Blazers and 50 bxs of Federals.
The Tractor supply/Farm supply stores are my secret (go to)
type stores for ammo when other places dry up. Check them out
when your Wallyworlds and Gunshops run out.

Buying .22 ammo 5000 rounds at a time is the ONLY way to go, it's cheaper and it lasts a LOOOONNNNGGG time!!!
I bought 5000 rounds last year and still have over 2500 left. I know I won't be so lucky next year because of the Tactical .22 matches that I'm now shooting in. I can see another order for 5000 going in sometime in February or March.
If you shoot a lot buy in bulk!!

Sorry to hear you don't get to shoot much!
I burn though ~5500 .22lr every 3 months or so. I usally take three .22lr rifles and three pistols to the range with me . Easy to shoot 400 rounds a week.
But I know where you are coming from, and agree. Buy a case and be happy.
What caliber can you shoot 22000 rounds of a year for ~$800.00???
I find my shooting skills have improved with all calibers, and all guns.
