Are you finding ammo at Tractor Supply? Just curious. That's my second "Man Store" right next to Harbor Freight. Lol

One i frequent is called a "Rural King".
The other is "Orscheln".
I live in a rural farming area.
They are more or less farm/ranch supply like stores.
Kinda' like Tractor supply. They sell everything from
hog vaccines, to live chicks and ducks in the spring,
to Carhardt clothing and work boots etc......
Both stores also have good ammo supplies usually.
Lots of .22 ammo most of the time. And shotgun shells.
I love these type stores and will browse in them alot.
You are right it's a "man store" type deal.

Everybody close by me has been out of .22 (and just about everything else) for about 3 weeks. There is one shop that has shelves still full of ammo but his prices are the reason he has them.
I was out of town the other day and stopped by a little shop I visit when I'm in the area. They said they'd been selling a lot of ammo but still had plenty on hand. I've been shooting my .22's more lately so I picked up a case of Blazers and 10 boxes of Mini-Mags while I was there. The guy I was talking to was nice enough to give me 10% off too.

I can pay $25 for a box of Federal 525 and spend the afternoon at the range enjoying myself ... or I can stay home and feel sorry for myself because WalMart doesn't have any at $18/box.
I guess folks in your area don't really want to shoot that much.

Stopped by local Walmart today, they had about fifteen boxes of 550 on the shelf. When I left, they only had ten. ;-)

It was a comparative statement ... It's the CONCEPT!!!!
If I want to shoot bad enough, I'll pay whatever it takes. It ALL depends upon how badly YOU want to go shooting.

I checked in my local Dick's this morning and they were sold out of the Blazer .22 ammo on sale and they wouldn't do rain checks .

I think that many WM sporting goods buyers, either locally or regionally, have made a conscious decision not to carry .22 ammo. On a national basis, there seems to be no ammo shortage. As I have posted previously, the gun stores here have plenty. I haven't check WM, though, because I don't buy ammo from them any more. 20 years ago, yes, but not now.

What I see is a big disconnect between us older guys and the younger ones. I even understand the allure of heading out to the range, throwing some plastic on the counter and buying a single day's supply. It only takes 5 minutes in and out the door...when it happens. Except over the years we've seen times when it doesn't work that way. We've seen enough of these shortages to be able to predict that we'll be seeing them again. About all we can't do is tell you when. And I even understand how there are other demands on young peoples money, with ammo maybe not being the most important today.
My view is maybe different. I'm getting old now. But all along I've been an ammo hoarder. Even in my teens I never fired all the 22s I had on hand, much less the centerfire and shotgun shells. Back then it was simple economics. I just didn't have the disposable income to buy very much. And there never was a day I walked home without some ammo still in my pocket. Regardless, over the years I've steadily built a small stockpile. And I keep working on it.
The view I've always taken is the long term idea. I want enough ammo that if the ammo shelves dry up for good, I'll have enough to live out my days. Some simple logic dictates the best time to hoard isn't when the shortages are in full swing. If you buy during the shortage and price rise you'll pay more and still not satisfy the thirst. Worse, you'll probably end up buying mixed lots of ammo (that might not perform the same). Or mixed brands that won't even shoot to the same point of aim.
So about all you can do right now is limit your shooting and buy at least as much as you're shooting up. But also consider saving some money for the next "bust" in the demand. Ammo isn't like milk or eggs. It doesn't go bad over a week, year or decade. I've still got some from the 1960s that shoots as well as when new (and I have the gun and targets from that period to prove it.) So maybe its time for those of you who don't have any in stock to bite the bullet..so to speak, and then the next time you see ammo on sale, buy in big time. I'm not suggesting a 2 week supply, buy enough to last a year or more. Then resupply before you run it all down.
You don't have to do as I say. But the future for you is just as plain as day. In a year or two or three you'll again be here lamenting the shortage and wanting to blame other shooters for the problem.

Yesterday the Cabela's in Verdi Nv had a pallet of dry-storage boxes each containing 2,100 rounds (in four bulk boxes) of "Champion" Federal for $84.99. I think it was a week ago they had the dry-storage boxes on sale for $79.99, but I couldn't get to the store during that time.
Don't know what the difference is between Federal "Champion" bulk that Cabela's sells and the Federal bulk that Walmart sells. The only thing I know for sure is that the "Champion" has 525 rounds per box and the Walmart Federal has 550 rounds per box. Maybe that's why people prefer going to Walmart -- there's 25 more rounds per box.

This is cabela's standard deal; it's always available.

There's no difference in the ammo; it's the packaging deal WalMart has with ATK.

Gander Mountain has Federal 525 bulk packs on sale for 19.99 plus free shipping. They seem to be one of the only online retailers in stock.
The panic buying is only going to get worse.

It's not necessarily an age thing as I'm only 26 and have plenty of ammo on hand. I think it's just how long you've been doing it.
I think we see a lot of it around here because this rifle is a lot of peoples first, or close to it. Recreational and competition shooting is getting more and more popular.

I suppose that's good news for those having difficulty finding ammo. Although, I can't imagine the need for a lot of dry-storage boxes. They take up a lot of space and certainly don't seem to be worth the $14.99 they charge individually.
Speaking of price, I'm relatively new to Cabela's. Hadn't been there before and even-though it's out of the way, thought I would check it out. Probably the most shocking thing I found going around the store was prices. There are a lot of things sold at Cabela's that are overpriced. Probably check out Scheels and Sportsman's Warehouse next time we are in the area. I don't expect their prices to be any better.

Ah, I see. In that case, I think I'll stick with Walmart when available.

Panic Buying... etc.
I think if all just join hands and panic together, we live up to misdirected news media's expectations and mis-perceptions of gun owners. Won't that be wonderful!
It's way past time to stop beating this "shortage" - so called - into the ground and grow up! Enjoy our pastime and sport, let the news people rant and rave. Let them be the "Village Idiots". The second amendment is and will always be the second amendment. We need to stay the course and continue being responsible, law abiding firearm owning citizens.
There! Iv'e said it!

It is entirely possible. Don't be surprised if Obama does it by Executive Order within the next two weeks. He hasn't let little things like congress and the constitution stop him on other issues.

Went to Wallyworld this AM. They had about 40 boxes of Federal 325 packs. Night guy had taken the key home the clerk told me to come back in an hour. I asked him to hold me 15 boxes. Came back in 50 minutes, all ammo but my 15 boxes was gone. I guess you have to buy it all when you see it....

I was in a "Rural King" the next town over today, and they had the Remington "Bucket o Bullets" which is 1400 rounds of 22LR. They had quite a few of these on hand(I'd guess 20-30 out) and priced at $60 each. At 4.2 cents/round that's a little bit steeper than the Federal 525 or 550 packs($.036/round the last time I bought them), but still not a horrible deal especially if you're low.

That's a pretty much "permanent" sale item.

Gives credence to my contention that some WM sports department managers aren't ordering any, for whatever reason. Both the folks at my local Cabela's and another large gun store said they have seen no shortage of .22 ammo - they get everything they order.
Those who are dependent upon WM for ammo have my deep sympathy, but there are too many online sources for anyone to go ammo-less. It all depends upon how badly you want to go shooting.

I had an interesting conversation with Wal-Mart Corporate yesterday. They finally called me back on my pricing complaint. "The difference in ammunition prices from Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart must be variations in ammo". I said nope and he said that he knows nothing about ammo but that he would do some comparison shopping. He tried to close with..."the cci quiets that you say are $2.97 at one Wal-Mart are $7.97 so there is no price difference". I asked for his fax # and sent him the receipt for the $2.97 cci. He called me back and apologised. We also discussed the price match on ammo and firearms. He verified that there is no exclusion on guns and ammo. He said that this issue will be resolved with his stores. We'll see
I asked him that if I pull the $2.97 ammo up on academy sports web site and it specifies "in store price" will that suffice for the price match? He said yes! Web only pricing is not an option, but in store pricing is. Overall, it was a good conversation but I'll believe it when I see it. [/IMG]
Edit...if anyone is interested on holding Wal-Mart to their "everday low price" here's a pic of the receipt.

I've never had a problem picking up Federal 22LR bulk packs at my local Wally World. I went in today to pick up another and they are out.
I talked to the Sporting Goods Manager and said he has tried to order them for over a week but the warehouse is "out". I picked up the last 9 boxes of Tulammo 223 they had in stock. Another item they have always had until now.
WTH?

I have checked every week since thanks giving and the two closest wal mart stores to my house are always out of Fed Bulk .22 and Fed .45 ACP. Really getting frustrating as I have never had this issue in the past.

My local Walmart is also out of all their 22cal. The guy working the counter said that people have been coming in and buying $300.00 - $400.00 worth of ammo at a time. Also all 9mm and 45 cal. was also sold out.

picked up a case of fed bulk yesterday at Ft. Thompsons in Little Rock. 19.99 box / 5250rds. came up to about 217 after taxes. They had about 5-6 cases on display. I've never been lucky at Walmart.. I believe people know the schedule and are there the instant they're put on the shelves. Maybe with help from insider info. lol

Just returned form my local Walmart here in central KY. Not one .22 of any brand to be found, no 9mm or .380,.45, only thing they had was some .270 and shotgun shells. I have never seen them without some .22 in stock, good thing I have about 5,000 rounds on hand.

Bought 5 of the 525 Fed Champions yesterday at Atwoods Farm & Ranch for $16.99 p/box. They seemed to have plenty in stock.
