Yes AR accessories will work externally on the rifle. Like grips, stocks , and anything that will screw on to a picatinny rail. I use a Hogue grip on mine and love it. Hope this helps.

Must have?
Guess that depends on what your going to do with the rifle?
50 yard-100 yard bench rest shooting? Scope, nice one, dont be cheap, you will regret it.
Mall Ninja look? The sky is the limit.
Since I only use mine for fast action shooting. This means, all I needed was a holo sight and a trigger. Im good with that.

Like Lager said it all depends on what you want to do with your rifle. There are tons of options out there. Take a look a the picture thread to give you some ideas.

Change grip? Hogue and/or Magpul make some great grips.
Foregrip of some sort...lots of options.
Bipod...more easily portable than a bag rest but you not as stable.
Scope...as has been said...buy a good one and save money in the long run.

Extra magazines are a must especially if you live in a 10 round state.
Extra ammo...buy 50 to 100 rounds of a variety of ammo to test what works best in your gun then buy lots of ammo as able. You can go through a lot of ammo in an hour of shooting.

I think you have to think about what you are using the gun for, at the moment. If you are shooting at 50 yds and under, static and/or moving, I'd suggest a red dot...faster target acquisition compared to a powered scope, lighter and easier to use.
Start with a red dot and use it and the gun for a few hundred rounds. Then add parts as needed or wanted. You can always take a part off temporarily or permanently as you like it or not.

budget?

trigger is where I'd start. JP 3.5lb springs for $10 if your on a budget. Optics is where I'd go next. If no budget for optics.. learn the irons for now (or get flip up magpul MBUS or similar) and/or upgrade all the plastic pieces for metal ones. (battle arms ambi lever, ndz charging handle, etc) kns 15-22 anti rotation pins are also an option) You don't have to do it all at once on the small upgrades. Most minor ar parts will work other than obvious things like magazines, barrels, some stocks that require removing buffer tube (since its not removable on 15-22), dust covers (since the 15-22 doesn't have one), etc.

personally I wouldn't go crazy on the picatinny peripherals. Maybe a grip or bipod. If you want to get real crazy.. get a CMC trigger pack and a Slidefire stock.. but yeah I agree with the others.. there's too many ways you can go. It's all on you to decide what you like.

The only must have I can think of is a sling. I think all rifles should have a sling.

That's another accessory who's need really depends upon the type of shooting one is doing.

I think everyone should also attend and Appleseed event (Project Appleseed Home), and for that you'd want a sling.

I don't understand your response. It didn't really add anything to the conversation.

The suggestion that a sling would be a good accessory was met by your response that it depends on the type of shooting you're doing. Why does my suggestion that shooting at an Appleseed event (which is taught using a sling) need a response? This thread was asking for opinions on accessories. If you have an opinion why someone wouldn't need a sling or why someone shouldn't shoot at an Appleseed, please elaborate. Your response basically says that people have opinions, but we all know that.

As far as why someone might want to shoot at an Appleseed, I gave a link to their website. To elaborate, they are a non-profit organization that teaches revolutionary war history and sling supported shooting techniques. Off-hand, sittting/kneeling, prone, using a sling. They also teach good shooting practices to help you be a better rifleman (or woman or child). They can help new shooters or people that have been shooting for decades possibly learn something new (as long as you have a teachable attitude).

I'm sorry you got bent out of shape. YOU made the statement that everyone should shoot appleseed and you would need a sling. That's simply a matter of opinion, as was my statement. Seems there are a lot of touchy people today.

Merry Christmas!

And yes, the need for a sling IS dependent upon the type of shooting. Not every shooter needs one.

Not bent out of shape, just curious why "to each their own" was even posted. It added zero information to the discussion. A sling can be a valuable tool. Learning to shoot with a sling can be a valuable skill. Appleseed is a way to learn that skill. There are others I'm sure. If you have other accessories to recommend for other types of shooting, please tell us about them.
