Default New owner, ammo question

Hello all,
I'm a new mp 15 22 owner. I'm expermenting with different ammo. I've read in the owners manual to stay away from CCI Stinger. Does anyone know if this warning also applies to Aguila Super Maximum Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 30 Grain Hyper Velocity Plated Lead Hollow Point? This seem like a super hot 22cal. that can rival or even out preform the CCI.

I've never had a problem with CCI Stingers. The ones I have issues with are Winchester. (FTF, FTE) CCI has never failed me though.

The "stay away from the Stinger" blurb applies only to the Performance Center model, which has a match chamber. The Stinger's case is fractionally longer than a regular .22 LR and will not fit the PC's chamber.

They are fine in the regular 15-22.

Yup, it's about 2mm longer. Who says size doesn't matter? LOL

Thank you very much. After re-reading the manual I finally caught on.

You are not the only one to miss that little difference, believe me.

Winchester makes many different .22 rounds...which one are you talking about?

I've been shooting the Winchester 40 grain 1300 FPS RN ammo in Tactical .22 matches without issue.
Cabela's: Winchester® .22 LR Ammo

OP: The one brand I avoid is anything with 'Remington' on it.....none of it has worked well in any .22 I've tried it in.

I should've specified. I'm referring to the M-22 40gr, Blackened Copper-plated Lead Bullet, 1255 FPS. Purchased 2000 bulk pack, and many of them have excess lead over the brass, I've had several FTF's as well as FTE's. Just a little info: the rifle is stripped and cleaned after every trip to the range, magazines loaded correctly every time, and haven't had a single issue with CCI Stingers. Gotta be the ammo.

Ammo wise I've been using Federal bulk 525 36gr. Ran through about 1800.... still haven't cleaned it. Still have yet to experience a FT feed or fire or eject with the Federal. I have 3k of M22 just haven't got to it yet we'll see how that runs.

Mine seems to like the Aguila Super Extras although it is a bit funky smelling (haven't seen/tried the Super Maximums). Pretty reasonably priced, no cycling issues, and seems cleaner and a little more accurate than the Federal Bulk for me so far at 25 and 50 yards. CCI Tactical and Mini Mags (1276 FPS ?)have worked great as well. The 50 rounds of Winchester Super X HPs (1280 FPS IIRC) I've fed have been flawless as well. Federal Champion and Auto Match haven't had any issues yet either other than visible lead residue in the bore when cleaning.

Most I've shot w/o cleaning so far is ~875 rounds of a mixture of pretty much all the ammo I mentioned above, not a single issue with misfires, feeding, or ejection. My 15-22 is only a week old at this point though.

Default I Like Aquila also...

I've had only one or two hiccups in over 2,000 rounds of a mixture of Aquila Super Extra 40gr. SP and 38gr. HP HV ammo. Shoots well and is consistently accurate (if I'm on my game!). It's all I shoot now in our 22's.

Anyone here have experience with 40gr Aguila Interceptor? This looks to be very hot ammo.

No but I'm not sure why you would want to shoot it. When it comes to .22LR ammo, unlike CF rifle ammo, the faster the ammo the more inaccurate it is, in general. Ammo that does not cross the sound barrier is a lot more accurate in a .22LR. 100% of all long range rimfire benchrest shooters use Lapua or Eley match ammo that has a speed rating of 1050 FPS.
On the otherhand if you want to eliminate critters past 100 yards the best ammo, with the most energy, is CCI-Velocitors rated at 1435 FPS with a 40g slug. Lightweight bullet ammo with 28-32g slugs lose a lot of energy just getting to 100 yards. All of these still have to cross back down below the SB at some point and that turbulence is what creates flyers in hyper velocity ammo. The 40g Velocitors are more resistant to that because of greater weight but it is still an issue. If you want an accurate rimfire at longer range you need to shoot something that uses jacketed aerodynamic bullets, like .17HMR or better yet Rem 5mm.
