Default Hand guard removal

Just wondering if the hand guard is removable ? Went hunting in the woods and want to clean the whole barrel. And if it is wondering if you need a tool to do it.

It is very easy to do, but not needed too often.
Don't hold the upper. Hold the barrel in a vise with the proper jaws or wrap an old leather belt in a helix to put in the vise so you don't ruin the barrel from the vise jaws.

How often do you guys take the hand guard off to clean the barrel ? And is it worth getting rail covers so dirt wont get onto the barrel as fast ?

Never. I haven't been rolling around in the mud with it or anything, but it gets used a lot.

I don't think rail covers will help much. If it gets dirty enough to need completely pulled apart and cleaned, I think a giant zip-lock bag would work better.

Seems like a hassle to remove the front hand guard just to be cleaning the barrel. I have found a shotgun swab on a cleaning rod after I remove the spacer on the front of the guard works. I just slide the spacer up the barrel far enough to get the cleaning rod down between the guard and the barrel works fine for me.

I understand. I hunt with mine constantly. I was answering your question...

"How often do you guys take the hand guard off to clean the barrel ? And is it worth getting rail covers so dirt wont get onto the barrel as fast ? "

I don't.

I don't think rail covers would keep much dirt/muck out as it seems there are lots of places for it still to get in. IMHO
