"Buffer Tube" Plug - Who got one?
The thread we were discussing this in is getting sidetracked.
New Owner, Quiet that action!
Some have the plug, and some don't. Maybe with this thread we can figure out what S&W was thinking.
Do the people who don't have the plug have any restrictions in their state? (no threaded barrels, no adjustable stocks, limited capacity mags)
I have a feeling S&W figured they don't need them on models with pinned stocks, so they just left them off all the restricted models period.
Mine is a (033) with no restrictions of any kind. Mine came with a plug.

I wonder if a bore snake or anything useful would fit in there.

035, mine, has no restrictions and no plug.. so that cannot be the reason.
I bet there is no rhyme or reason other than... if they have them in stock or not. It is just a finishing item, no actual value, so leaving it off would mean nothing.
There is a chance, they just stopped doing it all together and those that have it might have ones purchased prior to whatever date they stopped wasting time/effort/cost putting a plug in.

No idea, I never saw a model number other than 15-22.
It's this one:
Magpul MBUS Talo Edition w/threaded barrel.

home depot must sell something that can be used. pretty much a standard plug with a little grab tab on it.
from the sound of it, it would probably stay put better too.

I would think that compliant rifles would not have them.
After all, you need to be able to retract the stock in order to be able to use it (unless you have REALLY long fingers).

It's much easier to remove if you take your stock off.

That's part of my point, on a compliant rifle the stocks are pinned in place, it takes tools to even get them off.

Yeah, I was just saying that even with the stock in its shortest position, it's difficult to get the plug out.

You can get plugs similar to these at probably any hydraulics place that sells hoses and fittings. Only difference is they will probably be red or blue and wont have S&W on it. We get fittings all the time that come with them to protect the threads.

Define compliant. I live in California and my 15-22 has a threaded barrel, a collapsible stock, and a 10 round magazine.

Compliant generally means bare, unthreaded barrel and a pinned stock. The CA model isn't considered a "compliant" model. Your only restriction seems to be the 10-round magazine.

I would say the use of "compliant" around here might more reference the wording S&W uses in their product literature for certain model numbers. If you look at their catalog on 15-22's, the mark certain ones as "compliant" and then explain why that one gets that designator.
I, like you, live in CA and did not buy a specific "compliant" version as the only thing we needed was a 10rnd mag limit so all versions of the 15-22 could technically be made CA compliant.
S&W just designated some and sold some that way likely to make it easier on those wanting to buy and go the easy route and just get it with a fixed stock or non threaded barrel or with a shorty or blocked 10rnd mag. Me? I wanted a MOE and that did not come in a "compliant" version technically.

They, in fact, at one time did have a specific MOE "CA compliant" model number - I believe it was the 150877. Now you can find a current specifically listed "CA compliant" model 811062 - the key to this model just being the 30rnd capped to 10rnd mag.
Point is, it is sold as a "CA compliant" model made easy for the FFL and retailer and such, but not the only model you could make CA compliant.

Due to the AWB restrictions, non-compliant models cannot be sold in CT, MA, NJ or NY; we have NO choice. Even though there is no mag restriction here, we still get the crippled magazine. If someone wants an MOE model, one must outfit it as an aftermarket deal.

I was more addressing this statement "The CA model isn't considered a "compliant" model" - in fact, S&W does list it as a "CA Compliant" model. So, if you said you wanted a "CA compliant" 15-22 you could in fact buy just that from them. Model 811062.

Whatever you say. The fact is the ONLY thing "compliant" about the CA model is the crippled magazine. If you want to call that a "compliant' model, that's fine with me.
I'm not about to get into yet another argument with you simply because you get some perverse pleasure out of nic-picing over something that really doesn't matter. End of discussion.
