Default AWB, the 15-22 and range useage

Like many of you, I live in the city and frequent the city range a lot to discharge my firearms. I'm young enough to not have experienced Clinton's Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act so my question is this, How would an AWB affect the use of my 15-22 at a public range? Would the range marshals restrict the use of the 25-round mag, the entire firearm, or? How would private ranges handle the new rules?

On a side note, I will be purchasing an AR platform rifle if and when I can find one. I'd hate to buy it and only be able to use it when we head out to our family's ranch during the summer.

Thanks in advance!

I'd guess nothing would happen. Depends on what laws are passed and by what state.
Bans being talked about are all guessing at this point. But a ban in general would "ban" further sales and purchases of...??? Your guess is as good as mine.

Guns currently owned aren't part of it UNLESS some states pass laws requiring the confiscation of guns. If that happens I'd guess that courts would not uphold such a law based on it being against the constitution. It may go as far as a state supreme court...or perhaps as far as the Supreme Court.

It's all guesses at this point.

Thanks Kai. I'm not worried at all about the gov't confiscating guns. It won't happen. I just really want to know how the law would affect usage of a modern sporting rifle with all of the characteristics that Feinstein's bill aims to ban. I realize that all these guns will be grandfathered in but some insight how the bill would affect the future use would provide some relief to all the hysteria.

Actually..... Per Senator Feinstein's web site..

Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:

Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms;
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.
Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.

Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
  • Background check of owner and any transferee;
  • Type and serial number of the firearm;
  • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
  • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
  • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

I took the time to bullet the appropriate criteria concerning "Grandfathered" firearms.. This is straight from the Horses ***..

Exclamation let's be sure to stay on top of any of these attempts to push a ban through.....

this was posted on another firearm forum regarding illinois law.
hope more will take the possibility of any potential change of law seriously. & make the rounds to your local officials & states reps./senators/governers. expect to get a canned response unless leaving specific requests w/your name & return address w/email/letter or however you contact them

"URGENT ALERT – YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

CULLERTON TO INTRODUCE NEAR TOTAL GUN BAN ON JANUARY 2ND

The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton will introduce a so called “assault weapons” ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its “lame duck” session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police.

Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called “assault weapons” but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution."

While all the Usual Gang of Idiots in the congress and legislatures is firing up their confiscatory wish lists, I'm reasonably certain that the kids over a the NRA have a brigade of lawyers ready to pounce on any attempt to get too neo-Nazi with the Second Amendment and get it into the Supreme Court as soon as possible. Oddly, that might not be a good thing since some of the supposed conservative justices are pretty weasely on private ownership of firearms! Our best bet is to (1.) keep pressure on state and national representatives and remind them that we vote and hold grudges with equal ferocity, (2.) brush up on your grammar and write lots of letters to the editor demonstrating the illogic and unconstitutionality of these attempts and offer to have someone discuss the situation on the air or in a conference with reporters, and (3.) do not run around acting like the kind of loon that people don't want around firearms; all that "..cold, dead hand.." baloney sounds creepy and more than a little unhinged to the average citizen. Also, if you see or hear some guy at the LGS or range saying some pretty bloodthirsty stuff, don't just assume he's kidding or only blowing off steam. We don't need anymore armed madmen out there!

I saw this also, but the article I read has more. The entire next paragraph is asking for you to donate to support the cause. It's stated "the ISRA has learned from a very credible source" until we can read facts or see the actual bill, it's just another ruse to make a buck IMO

Anyone, including you and me...with your legislatures help...can propose a bill, law, etc...That is all it is, "a proposal".
It then has to go through the legal system where most die in committee or are voted down for a variety of reasons...most of which are funding related.

I have emailed my president, senator and congressman and will call as well.
