I used a piece of aluminium for the cover and a little steel rod with wire that i made into the spring so it comes open when you pull the handle back to fire and two sided tape to hold it to the gun. I will get another picture with it open here in a few

Here a picture with the cover open. I also have a magnet to hold the cover closed until I pull the handle back to load the first round

I would be curious to see a top down profile view to see with the tape and the base how far it sticks off? What kind of gap do you have all around the edges as it surely does not sit flush? Another guy had a thread on this, I suggested using black RTV silicon to make a rubber gasket around the door to make it sit flush to the upper to make a truly sealed door.

VERY nice job. It's one of the better ones I've seen. How would epoxy glue work ? Does the double sided tape handle the heat ok ?

I thought about the epoxy at first but I decided to go with the two sided tape so it wouldn't be glued to my gun. The way it goes to the gun and with the spring there isn't much pressure on the tape. I also used the best 3M tape. It opens and closes great and wasn't to bad to make. I really wanted to buy one but I couldn't find anyone that makes them so I decided to tackle the job myself.

I meant use black RTV to make a seal around the door where it touches the upper. Just lay a bead. Trust me, black RTV will do not damage to your upper. It is solid, flexible, pliable BUT easy to peal off if you don't like with zero damage. PLUS, your putting it on the door not the upper.
Using tape to hold the unit on is fine, but to make a true sealed dust cover, it needs to sit flush on the upper so a little silicon RTV around the doors edge would make that happen and close any gaps.

Your right.. but your missing the point.
An AR dust cover sits flush to the upper so no seal needed. It's tight and snaps closed. This rigged model on a not AR15 will have a gap around it's door and not be flush sit to the upper. So, to make it somewhat of a legit dust cover it needs that flush mount and that gap between door and upper could be closed with silicon. Making a true flush dust cover door.

My Sport doesn't have one and the dust doesn't seem to bother it. Same for the 15-22. He could just "mold" the angle and it would be just like the snap on's only it'd be a click on with the magnet.
