Would you shoot this ammo
From a small stockpile I got from a friend. This is the worst of it and only constitutes a couple hundred rounds. I do not plan to put it through the 15-22 but only through a lever action Marlin. If the answer is no what's the best way to dispose of it?

Seems to me there is more risk than reward... it's pretty cheap to buy more .22LR ammo.
Sorry, not sure of the best disposal method, other than taking it to a gun shop; they can usually get rid of it.

I wouldn't shoot any rounds that are too corroded to feed into the chamber with minimal force, but I would have no worries about shooting the rest of it. The main thing you have to watch out for is squib loads. Just make sure every bullet you fire leaves the barrel before you chamber another round. As long as you don't shoot a round with a bullet already stuck in the barrel, I doubt .22 ammo is going to do any damage to your Marlin.

If it fits in the chamber, shoot it. As for surface corrosion, steel wool removes it and then it will fit. If the brass is actually pitted, than that's another matter.

Wipe the rounds off and give them a try. Another option would be to sort it and toss the worst looking rounds into the trash. Shoot the rest.

I'd give them a quick wipe and try them in one of my K22 revolvers. My biggest concern would be a squib load being lodged in the barrel. You don't want to send another bullet down the pipe or you will wind up with a bulged barrel.

You could pull the projectile and powder out and make yourself some hillbilly snap caps.

Wipe it off and shoot it...thru a revolver... or one round at a time...making sure none turn into a squib load...

As cheap as 22 ammo is not worth risking a squib over.

Thats why you PAY ATTENTION.... to what you are shooting... a SQUIB... can happen with NEW ammo.... I have had it happen before.!!!!!
And with the current crisis to locate and buy .22 ammo... I will shoot any and all ammo available....even one round at a time...makes for good slowfire practice, breathing practice, and tactical practice.!!!!!!
You should also....NOT...be throwing LIVE ammo...in the trash...

Defective live ammo should be disassembled, the powder burned and the other components then discarded, if they cannot be reused.
Powder poured out on the ground burns with a short flash - it does NOT explode.

.22LR ammo is really becoming hard to find, here in central VA anyway. Hell, in another week that box and a half will be worth $10.
My opinion...like many of the others...shoot it. Perhaps not rapid fire, but slow fire.
