Default Cabela's

Had ordered some magazines and federal bulk 22 from Cabela's before the 1st. and it showed backordered-tentative arrival on 1/25/13. Just got e-mail that shows thank you for your order now backordered-tentative arrival 2/25/13. Bummer

I got the same email. I saw the email this morning and was thinking the UPS guy was going to bring me some goodies this week and then I opened it only to be let down, lol.

I got the same email, but with an arrival date of 2/20. Not worried about it though, that 3 pack is just for reserves and probably won't see the light of day for decades.

All the shelves are bare everywhere. Suppliers are out of ammo. Just crazy the way people think sometimes. Manufacturers supposedly can't keep up. They may have to from a 4 day work week to a 5 day work week to produce a little more. Well maybe not because they got the prices where they want them and the people are waiting in line. The way I always view this problem is to have enough ammo that you don't have to worry about it when these things happen.

Don't know where you get your 4-5 day work week info.

I live near Federal's biggest ammo plant. Have many friends who work there.

They have been running 24/7 for years.

I got the same. I ordered 12/24 expected 1/24 now more like 2/24. But if it is not cancelled, I can live with it. Price and deal were to good to fret to much.

Makes one wonder what all the ammo is going, doesn't it? As much as Federal makes a day, the supply doesn't simply dry up overnight.

Supposedly, based on a few google searches, there are about 5 Billion rounds of small arms ammo made each year in the US.

With 300 Million firearms in the US, that's less than 17 rounds produced for each firearm....

If people start buying any quanities of ammo, things get in short supply really quick.

Some of Federals machines can produce 1M rounds a day....

(I'm storing ammo for 400 other people's guns...)

The government is a huge buyer of ammo for all the different law branches. Even stories on the web as of late about how much they alone are buying and taking bids from factories to make just for them.

This fact is playing a role as well.

That's very true, but the general discussion is about .22 LR. The feds didn't all of a sudden buy up all the .22 LR production.

Ordered a 3 pack on the 23rd, got confirmation it was in stock with ship date of 1/3. Next day get an email that it's backordered till 1/25.

Ordered another 3 pack on 1/6, said backordered till 1/25 as well.

Called 1/25 said it should ship by the end of the day. Wake up this morning get 2 emails with both back ordered till 2/20.

As I scan this thread, everyone seems to have a different back order date. I wonder what is up with that?

I understand that, and not all 5 billion rounds manufactured are .22 rimfire, either.

The point is, if you select about 4 or 5 of the most popular calibers, build 3/4 of a billion of each, it still doesn't go far when people are buying thousands of rounds....

I typically run thru 4000 rounds of .22 per year. If the same 3/4 billion rounds of .22 were manufactured, that would only support 187,000 .22 cal firearms (4000 X 187000). There are way more .22 cal firearms than that out there.

(Rugers built over 5 Million of the 10/22 alone.)

I ordered their Federal special which was 4 boxes of bulk and get free ammo box back on December 05. Plus another box to get over $95 and get free shipping. Received 4 boxes 2 weeks later. Then late December received the ammo box. Last box of ammo due end of January. Then I received the same email for end of Feb for the rest. Not worried about it. I got in on the 5000 round bulk CCI purchase deal 3 weeks ago so I will start using that, hopefully tomorrow if the weather holds.

I did the same deal and have 6300 rounds waiting for pickup at Cabela's. Pretty good deal for these days...

I checked my inventory log (numbers were not verified via physical, manual inventory, however)

I was incorrect, I have ammo for 543.82352941176.... firearms.

I hope that gets me outta the slacker category.

I am heading to the ammo store in a bit, hopefully there will be some.

Update.... No mo ammo :-(

I ordered a case back in Dec 6. I have received three back-order emails. The last one, today says 2/25/13.

Terrible online retailer.

I just found a source that says (circa 2009) that there are approximately 2.5 billion .22LR rounds manufactured per year.

Ruger is said to have built 5 million 10/22 rifles over the years. Now I realize that not all of them are still being used today and I realize that there are millions of other brands of .22 firearms out there, too.

2.5B divided by 5M users equals one box of 500 rounds per user.

I beleiver there are tens of millions of .22LR firearms out there and that's why there is a shortage. If you see some somewhere, grab it.

The shortage ain't going away in just a few months...

Default I guess I'll be getting that email

Bullets are sold out everywhere. I back ordered some from Cabela's that are supposed to take a couple of weeks, but I'm anticipating an email that says "Sorry......"

I did the same thing on December 14th and ordered 3 ammo cans (6300 rounds) which said 1-2 weeks backorder. I finally got it all in last week! I'm good for a while.

I disagree, Cabela's is a top notch retailer. They don't make the bullets/mags, just sell them. They took backorders and will fill them as fast as they get them. Since they are not allowing backorders anymore, that should tell you something about our supply... There isn't one...
