Default 22lr IS available.

Here in NC I also belong to another forum and its called the Carolina Shooters forum. I looked on there last night in the ammo for sale section and I found at least 6 different folks wanting to sell 22lr ammo, most in bulk packs that had laying around. The prices were a lil steep but not too bad. Example, $40 per 500 pack, sometimes less. None were offering shipping, had to drive to their meeting place.
The point is, explore your local area shooter forums, local gun ranges or clubs that have a website. Local Craigslist or sale newspaper ads.
Good luck and hope this helps.

I stopped in a couple of pawn shops & gun shops this afternoon; saw 50 packs of wildcats for $7, bulk packs of 375 & 550 for $35 & $55. CCI 100 count for $15. I passed on all if it.

Stopped by wally world (Sheboygan, WI) last night. They had 50-round packs of Winchester Super X 37 grain for $3.25/ea (limit 3). Then stopped by Gander next door... More .22lr then I could have imagined. I bought the last 500 count Federal 40 grain ($22), which I found tucked behind at least 15 boxes of the 50 count federal.. Went out to dinner, came home with 650 rounds of .22lr... Not a bad night!

Huh.. I wasn't even aware there was an issue with .22 lr. I haven't seen any empty shelves for it around here.

I have around 3000 rounds, not for sale but I shoot a lot of 22's between practice and matches. I am picking up my M&P 15-22 out of layaway tomorrow and I would love to run 1000 rounds through it this weekend but I'm going to have to limit myself. I refuse to pay crazy prices for 22 ammo. Unfortunately that means I won't get to shoot as much. I'll keep checking and hopefully I will I'll run across some.

You are really lucky to see them on shelves. I have looked all over my area including going to a Cabelas 70 miles away and nothing to be had. My closest Academy has had maybe a box here and there of Remington yellow jackets but no other .22. The local Walmart has had bare shelves for about 3 weeks. I finally found some CCI online that was somewhat overpriced but at least now I can break in my 15-22.
