Default Mini - Bulk Ammo Test

I played around with my 15/22's yesterday. One is scoped with a Leapers compact 4-12x44 the other has a TRS-25 on it. Shot several 12 rounds groups of Golden Bullet, Federal Bulk, and M-22 in each rifle at 30 yds.

What was suprising was that the dreaded, ******, hated Golden bullets was by far the most accurate. And the best group was a ragged one holer with 2 fliers with the red dot and Golden's. Second best ammo was the M-22 and not suprising the hollow point Federal were third. Now this is all bulk stuff, so not the most consistant ammo out there... But, that is pretty much all that these guns will see so might as well figure out what they like.

The scoped gun is basically new and hasn't had more than a couple mags down the pipe. So after I feel it's seasoned enought, my plan is to bounce the scope between the two and figure out which gun is more accurate and that one will keep the scope on it.

By the way, that Leapers scope is a pretty solid little scope with lots of nice features for a $100 scope. A little heavy, but it actually gives the gun a little better feel.

I've had great luck with M-22. Not so much with Golden Bullets in the past, but what I've been reading is that Remington has been really watching their QC in regards to their .22 ammo recently. I would love to have another value option in ammo like Remington. Maybe they are starting to figure it out.

I hope you are right and they are watching QC better. Once upon a time it was a fairly great 22 ammo. It really went down hill bad when they transfered to off shore manufacturing,my sling shot ammo shot better. It will take some time for anyone to start trusting it again for shooting though. What they need to do is clamp down hard on QC and flood the market and at way lower prices. Now would be a good time to do it with all the shortages.

I'm now glad that I picked up the 2 bucket's of Golden's. First one I got was just to try them out, second was because they were the only ones available (and last bucket on pallet). Obviously a few mags at 30 yards doesn't mean they are the best bulk out there, but I will give them a better slot in the lineup than just mag dumps...

It seems that the new Remington GB boxes and buckets that are marked with a "NEW and IMPROVED" symbol on the label have the newer QC standards.... I have had no problem from it with the 225 rd box i have been testing from so far... have NOT done any accuracy work yet, though...

I think it just depends on the rifle with the Golden Bullets. I've never had any trouble with them in my 15-22. Over the 1 1/2 years I've had the 15-22 the only .22lr ammo I've bought has been Federal bulk 550 and the bulk boxes of Remington Golden bullet, I did buy 1 brick of Centurion ammo when I first bought the rifle but never bought it again only because its a little higher than bulk ammo. I have shot other brands of ammo through it that family and friends have brought to shoot and my 15-22 will shoot any .22lr ammo I feed it.

Where did you hear they moved production offshore?

According to what I just googled...
Remington, shut down the old plant in Bridgeport, Conn.

The new state of the art ammo facility is in Loneoak, Arkansas

and all ammo is made there...

The confusion may be coming from the fact that when Remington shut down the Bridgeport plant they sold all the machinery to a company in the Philippines. This company became Aquila, from what I understand.

Aguila...is based in sunny Mexico... and they are in a former Remington plant...

I shoot a Giles .22 pistol with a red dot sight. When I started shooting this gun I tried various brands of ammo firing 5 to 10 shot groups from a bench rest. The most expensive shot the worst. I had some real cheap stuff as well that I normally would never consider but it shot through the same hole at 50'. I went through 2 cases of that ammo after that test and it all worked fine. I got more than a few stares at pistol matches but, for me, it worked. This was some time ago and the stuff is no longer available. CCI seems to be OK now until I find something else.

Speaking of Aguilla .22 ammo, I've tried several flavors and it is pretty decent stuff. For semi-autos their Centurion 40 grain high velocity works well in a couple of my guns, though it is a little smokey. Worth a try in these tough ammo times!

I picked a pack of 500 rounds of Remington "Thunderbolt" .22lr ammo. I went through 100 rounds of the thunderbolt and all 100 rounds cycled flawlessly.

Just reporting my experience with Remington lately.

Just curious was it labled "New and Improved"... Might give Remington a try now with all the good reviews here lately...

haha, it does not have a "New and Improved" label but it does have an Arkansas address on it.

Also i put around 100 round of Blazer ammo through my gun. it was out of a 525 Value Pack. Don't know what everyone's experience with Blazer is but i give it a thumbs up. I believe they are owned by cci because the rounds have a cci "c" stamped on them and i think it used to actually say "cci Blazer" on the box but the current box i have does not. I wasn't sure if Blazer was just cci's "cheap" ammo or what.

You MAY be.... but Remington says they've never had a foreign plant.

BTW, It's Lonoke Arkansas and way back in the day when I was involved in 4-H shooting Remington would supply the kids with pallets of shotshell, rimfire and clays. I'm kinda partial to them.

No one said there was a Remington plant out of the country. The MACHINERY from Bridgeport was sold to a foreign company.

just moved to little rock and drive by that big Remington plant all the time.. I didn't know that was the new plant. I wish they'd have a yard sale or something. I guess I may have to try some if I ever find any.

Actually, MadMax said they transferred to an offshore facility.

The Golden's that I used for the test are New and Improved. I have a brick of the Thunderbolt's also that I've had for at least 5 years. I haven't shot any of those yet in the 15/22.

Because the weight and velocity is different between the three products, wouldn't this only suggest that the scope was adjusted for the Golden Bullet ammunition? Wouldn't the scope need to be adjusted accordingly between each test?

When testing bullets for any caliber I'm looking for grouping, not POI (point of impact)... And actually, point of impact for all three bullets were extremely close, so at least at close range the bullets would be interchangeable with the same scope/red dots settings.

When I get a calm day I'm going to stretch out the yardage and add a few more bullets to the test.
