First time color fill.
Broke out the tacticrayons and a torch lighter and went at it.
this was my first time, I don't think it turned out too bad.
Colors are Red and a copper color which turned out almost FDE...lol
What do you guys think?

Looks good man. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the 22 portion needs some touch up?

Sometimes, in those problematic areas, it helps to heat the crayon itself and then press it into the fill area. Once that's done, let it cool a bit, then hit it with the lighter again to smooth out the finish.

My first shot at it as well. Red and white Crayolas, toothpick and wifey's blowdryer. I think I got the hang of it...

I just picked up an M&P 15-22 on Thursday of last week. I never considered doing the color fill but after seeing this and some YouTube vids, i'm thinking I may tackle this as well. Does model paint work better of pretty much the same as the crayons do? Which is easier in your guys opinions? Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Crayon is easier, and it's easy to change colors if you get bored. It stands up to a lot.

What are everyone's best suggestions on getting rid of the "ghosting" effect around the letters/logos? I'm kinda skerd to screw with it now that I have it the way I want it but the white haze is starting to bug me.

Re: First time color fill.
I'm decking my gun out in blue... this is the prototype coloring. I'll probably make it a brighter blue depending on hardware availability.

Just be sure to use NON-acetone nail polish remover. Otherwise you're looking at bad mojo.

The white looks nice. Red leaves too much of a ghost IMO.

This looks proffesional, good work. Think this is how I want mine to look although I might do the M&P Red to kinda flow with the red and white of the fire and safe engraving.
Can you please elaborate a little more on how you did it? I've seen a couple videos but they just rub the crayon and wipe excess clean and redo.

Thanks for the compliment!! I have since done all of the engravings...with better results if I do say so myself. Definitely, got the hang of this. I just wonder how long it will stay on
Basically, what I have been doing is heating up the polymer with the blowdryer (low setting and close to the engraving to be filled) till its kinda hot to the touch. I then take the crayon (wrapper partially removed so i don't have to mess with it later) and rub it in (should be easy since the polymer is hot) until the engraving is full. Gently wipe off excess then use the blowdryer again to heat up the crayon, melting it till it fills in every part of the engraving. Once it has all been filled in, shut off blowdryer and cool it down quickly by blowing on it. I'm not sure if the blowing part actually does anything but it makes me feel as if i created a piece of art or something hehehe. A few minutes later, I take a slightly damp paper towel and use elbow grease and toothpick to get rid of the excess and clean it up. Finally, I use gun cleaner to get rid of the cloudiness.
BTW, I used an orange-red, scarlet or something like that instead of the plain red because it stuck out more.
Hope this help ya!!

It has been suggested by others on this forum that mineral oil with a nappy cloth, non-acetone nail polish remover, gun cleaner or Windex will work...even brake cleaner has been mentioned before. Just don't wait too long to get rid of the ghosting/cloudiness/haze...I think that as long as you take care of it before it really sets in, you should be good to go.

I like that green. My red "fire" is just so-so, should have tried green instead.

I went with almost the same colors as yours except I went with the red on the 15-22 instead. The circle around the emblem in the mag was the pia but mostly cuz it was my first test. Got the hang of it though after that. I just buffed the haze it with a dry paper towel. Might go back and try to clean it up a little more tomorrow and do my other 2 mags. Love the way it looks though. First I thought the red was too dark but now I think I like it better that way. More subtle.will post pics tomorrow. Also, be careful of getting white shavings into other parts, it's hell getting it off. Got some on the raised 22LR on the mag. Running hot water on it carefully got it clean with some rubbing with a towel.
