Default Optics question

I've looked around on the forum but didn't find an answer.

I'd like to put a 2x red dot or scope on the top rail capable via flip-to-side mount so that I can also have access to the iron sights. I don't like the peek-a-boo scope mount as they sit too high.

Is anyone running a setup where you have a scope or red dot mounted via flip-to-side mechanism? I'm not talking about a magnifier used in conjunction with a red dot. If so, what are you using and what should I avoid?

If the red dot was mounted on a flip-to-side mount I feel like it wouldn't hold zero. It it flips left and right surely it'll throw it our of wack right? I don't know, that's just a thought.

Surely you can't be serious, and don't call me "Shirley"

I'm thinking a more reliable approach to this would be to either mount the RDS or irons on 45 degree mounts or get a good QD rig for the RDS so you can take it on and off w/ reliable zero w/o much effort.

Edit: or just turn off the RDS and use the irons through it...

That would make entirely too much sense.

Except he's wanting magnified optics. With 1x, sure.

The only true 2 power see thru combat style scope/reddot I know of is the Bushnell copy of an ACOG... that doesnt have a screw on or off multiplier...

It would have to be fixed on the top rail...and the irons off the side on 45 degree mounts...

HTH,
Paul

Just got off work. Gotta love working 24 of the last 36 hours.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I'll go with a scope similar to this Amazon.com: UTG 3-9x32 Compact CQB Bug Buster AO RGB Scope with Med. Picatinny Rings, 2" Sunshade: Sports & Outdoors and couple it with a riser and QD mount.

Or I could go with this setup http://*******/WsMLpl

Never checked out the Bug Buster before but looks intriguing. You've got me on a new research mission of those to potentially replace my P-22 for long distance stuff when it moves over to the 10/22 I've got on order...
