Option for 25 round mags
Hey everyone, I came across some information on another post within this forum that talked about ordering the 25 round magazines directly from S&W.
Well, I just got off the phone with S&W and have two 25 round magazines officially on order and just have to wait on the production game to catch up with demand.
I paid $50.29 including the shipping cost which, in my opinion is very cost efficient considering the nature of things on the street so I figure this was the best option.
The person I spoke with could not give me an exact time frame, but just would say it could be an average of 6 weeks or so. Your card will not be charged until the product is shipped which is nice.
Bottom line is every time I look at other retailers like Midway-USA they continue to push their expected stock date back so you're going to either wait a while or pay well beyond the worth of the magazine. I hope this helps for those of you looking.
Happy shooting!!

Like I said, unless you're willing to pay well beyond the actual worth of the magazine (which I'm not) then you're going to have to wait anyway.
If I find one locally at a good price I will absolutely jump on it but I figure it can't hurt to have an order in with the actual manufacturer.

Just so you know, S&W does not manufacture any of their magazines. All come from third party companies. The 15-22 magazines are made by one of MagPul's sub-contractors.

Order placed on 12/22/12. Don't expect to ever see them and I hope the OP doesn't hold his breath.

Based out of Colorado I believe... I hope they move to TN which is very pro-gun and no state tax. I welcome more jobs to this state but I guess we'll wait and see.

Wow guys, I didn't mean to hurt feelings here. If I thought everyone knew this or already went this avenue I wouldn't have put it out there.
Again, so everyone understands... I am not willing to pay a price unworthy of product. If you or anyone else would like to pay $80 for one mag, please have at it.
I am willing to wait on a good deal and I will load my one mag until my thumbs bleed before I'll pay the prices on the street right now.
If you have to wait anyway, I just see it as not being a bad idea. Now, for those of you who ordered right at the end of the year, my question to you is this; if your product ships within the next few weeks, is it then worth the wait?

Just didn't want you to believe that 6 week line... they were "in stock" when my order was placed. Like you, I'm just waiting. But not holding my breath.

Catfan,
I don't believe anyone took offense to your post, I think everyone is alluding to the fact that many of us already have magazines on order with S&W, and that we will be quite surprised if we receive them in the next 6 month, yet alone in 6 weeks. Many are frustrated by the lack of communication of any sort from S&W. In a previous post I noted that S&W knows how many magazines their suppliers can produce in a day. They know how they plan on distributing those magazines, most will go direct to distributors, and hopefully some will go to the customers who have ordered direct through S&W. Based on that information they should be able to contact each customer and provide an estimated shipping schedule. It's the impersonal phone recordings with no information, combined with the total lack of response to their customers, that has most people frustrated. I know that I am scheduled to shoot a match in April that is sponsored by S&W, and S&W usually has an area where they display their wares. I plan on thanking them for their support, but letting them know in person, how badly most people view their handling of this situation. I am personally holding off on the purchase of an M&P 40 pistol because of their poor customer service. I realize that they can't do much about the shortage, but better communication would go a long way.

I think it's ridiculous they told you that since many have been waiting for months. Again, none of us are upset with you, just the information that was given to you.

I agree on the mis-information. I have to be honest though, it doesn't bother if they don't get here until mid-year. If I find one sooner, great. If not, then maybe they'll actually ship it at some point.
I'm just super excited that I was able to find this rifle and I now begin the search for certain additions. I read that information that was updated yesterday (I believe) and called today. I was just happy that I got someone on the phone who at least confirmed that I would receive, at some point in the future my magazines.

I agree. I hope we all get ours.
As you can tell, we are a moody crowd when it comes to our magazines.
Cheers.

CatFan,
Not to burst your bubble, BUT when I placed my order 12/28, a large number of others placed orders at the same time. S&W later advised that they had computer problems in that time frame and had lost a lot of those orders. Instead of offering to find some way to make things right for those customers, S&W simply declared those orders void. Those people also thought they had valid orders in place with S&W. I sincerely hope they don't try that same logic somewhere down the road with the current backorders, Still, there is a little voice in the back of my head telling me to place and order with pro-mag and be done with it.

So what's the word on the pro-mag products? Specifically the 32 round mags forbthev15-22? I will probably wait to try track one or two those down at the local Academy Sports assuming they don't suck.

I think the 10 rounders can be converted to 32 rounders. It's hard to tell for sure without one in hand. I think I will order one and try it.

MagPul said they would move out of CO if they passed the proposed gun legislation. Looks like they may be packing up.

The word on the Pro-Mag 32 rounders is that they run pretty well. There is a thread somewhere on the S&W site where someone did a field test of a couple of Pro-Mag 32 rounders. It was cold and snow was moving in so the test was limited. The last time I checked the Pro-Mag web site, their lead time was 8 weeks and the price was still a few cents less than $17. Since I already have a few 25 round S&W mags, I'll probably wait on my order from S&W, but if I only had the one mag that came with the gun, I'd take a chance on a couple of Pro-Mag 32's, and then wait on S&W.
Found a link to the review / test Promag Review

Well, I realize some folks on this thread called me crazy (or thought that anyway) for believing the person who told me I could receive my mags in about 6 weeks.... Well, guess what? I received my mags from S&W today. Right at 8 weeks. Not too bad.

I called S&W earlier this week and placed a phone order for two. No promised ETA but the guy told me they were still backlogged with some December orders. As long as my one mag works, I'm OK. I didn't buy my 15-22 as a blaster to run through ammo, rather as a cheaper way to shoot and plink with an AR platform. I only load ten rounds anyway (just like my 5.56 AR's except for a couple full mags for invading zombie hoards and such.
BTW, the total hit for two 25 rounders shipped was $47.48 (but not charged until when the mags ship).
