It is Mil-Spec.

The difference, which isn't shown in some pictures is that the CTR stock has a "friction lock" on it. IMO it's not really worth it on the 15-22 for that money but to each his own. The friction lock is supposed to eliminate all play in the stock. I own the MOE stock and it really has little to no play and is a good, sturdy stock.

I believe there are a few YouTube videos showing the difference. Probably would be good to watch one just to get an idea. I think most places are about a $30 difference between the two.

thanks for clarifying the tube type for me everyone.
slinglead,i have read about the"friction lock"so i do understand what its supposed to do.i think ill just get the MOE,im sure ill be happy with it.now i need to research the magpul hand guards.i heard you need some special parts to make them work on the 15-22's.

Like i said, i have the MOE stock and its a great stock. Good value for the money and Magul makes great stuff.

I'm not entirely sure how to change the hand guard because i just have an afg2 on mine, but i know its possible with a few parts. I believe there was a thread talking about it within the last week.

The parts you need to install the Magpul handguards (or any handguard other then the OEM one) are made by Tacticool. There are a couple threads about how to do it as well as some you tube vids.

It is not mil spec.

It is slightly between the two. I'm running a commercial spec MOE stock on mine.

There is a slight amount of play but not much more than the original stock.

I have an AR15 with a commercial spec stock and it does not fit on my 15-22.

I heard people say the CTR friction lock still lets some side play to happen.

The std stock from my M&P15 fits perfectly on my 15-22, so it must (like everyone has stated) be milspec. Worked out great, because I have one of those pink striped 15-22's, and swapping the pink stock for the black one balances the pink ratio out nicely...it looks awesome. A "free" mod.....rare beast. LOL

That is interesting. I have a commercial spec MOE stock and it fits. I have a mil spec Crane stock and it fits. I have a mil spec UBR and it does not fit (duh).

The 15-22's original stock fits on both my commercial and military receiver extensions.

It is Mil-Spec. Mil-Spec is smaller than commercial by a marginal amount. Therefor commercial will fit onto a mil-spec tube but a mil-spec stock will not fit onto a commercial tube.

It cannot be between the two. Mil-spec stock's have less play than commercial stocks on the mil-spec tube (which is on the 15-22).

This picture does a great job of clarifying.

It might say that, but it is incorrect.

Huh., I thought the Mil Spec was larger than the commercial, meaning the mil spec will fit all, but the commercial will only fit commercial. Musta mixed them up.

Is it that much better than the stock that comes with the 15-22?

To remove all doubt, put a set of digital calipers on the tube.

Everyone with firearms should own a set of calipers. They run $9.99 at Harbor Freight and they are often on sale for $6.99. And it seems that 1/2 of the magazines (periodicals) I get have Harbor Freight coupons so you can always get 20% off one item.

Update: I just looked at HF coupons in a new magazine, and the digital calipers are listed as $29.99, on sale for $9.99. Looks a little different than mine, but also includes extra battery, which mine did not. Still a great buy.

I did as well as it wasn't 28mm. I may have converted wrong as I did it on the fly. Maybe I should set mine to inches Stupid Imperial measurements.

The M&P 15-22 takes a Mil-Spec stock. If I remember correctly, the commercial size stock has a larger diameter opening, needing a larger diameter tube to fit properly.

Hope this helps!

Yea its Mil-Spec... its just that some people argue that its not... or that its inbetween... I've seen some peoples rifles set up and they say "oh yea but it works"... and it turns out just plain sloppy...
