Default ProMag 32 round mag

Hey guys, just got 2, 32 round mags in from promag ...i've seen various threads about them and their reliability, just wanted to let everyone know that i'll be shooting them shortly and will give a brief review/comparison to the stock S&W mags. here's hoping that all goes well!

I have 3 of them, haven't used them yet but my son has and he says they work just as good as the one that came with the rifle.

i loaded both of mine up, checked the staggered loading and it looked good, just like the stock mags, popped it in and cycled the bolt open and closed, both mags fed all 32, both locked the bolt open after the last round. i can't imagine these will give me any trouble actually firing them. and i love the extended look of them in the gun! next up is the drum mag!

Hand-cycling ammo through an action may or may not reflect what actual shooting will do because you can't hand-cycle the action near fast enough to simulate firing. What works hand-cycling can often not work under actual firing conditions.

Ive put over 100 rounds through each of my 32 rounds pro mags. No problem at all. Held the bolt back each time after the last round was fired. I did notice that the top screw on one of the mags one kinda loose afterwards but even with the loose screw at the top it did not effect anything. I think i will put some loctite on the screw. So far im happy with the mags.

Those will be the first Promags that don't suck I've ever heard of, if they work. JMO.

Yup, my thoughts as well.

I'm still trying to figure out the rationale for a 32-round magazine. A 35-round I can understand, but 32?

Hey for 16 bucks and 7 extra rounds, sure 35 is more understandable... but more ammo and less money is good enough for me! why pay around 25 for a 25 round mag when i can pay 16 for 32!

Who pays $25??? If nothing else 44mag.com sells them for $19. Even my LGS just charges $20.

It will be interesting to see how they hold up after a few hundred rounds. ProMag's reputation for their metal magazines is pretty bad.

But, whatever turn you on is fine with me. I'm happy with S&W's product.

You just like having an attitude don't you? whether it's 25 or 19, it's still more than 16, i guess it was too simple a point?

To each their own weirdness - I prefer the look of the short 10-rounders.

44mag.com - 15.99 with $5 flat rate shipping for one or a hundred. They are never out of stock. Delivery virtually always in three days or less.

they function flawlessly for me. although they look as if they should hold about 40 rounds. the length gets in the way a tad when shooting prone with a bi-pod. any excuse to keep shooting for a few more seconds.
10rnd mags look nice while having a photoshoot but man, thats a lot of magazine exchanges

The thread was started back in June when mags were plentiful.

Sure wish someone would make a double stack mag for the 15-22. Kel Tec has it figured out with it PMR 30 .22 mag pistol; holds 30 rounds and works great; put 300 rounds thru mine Sunday evening.

Bill

Ah. didn't notice that. Sorry.

There's a guy here on the furum that supposedly has a DS working and is doing the machining to mass produce. No one's seen him for a month or so so we are hoping it's just because he's busy on the project.

well, I guess the question NOW is, what is the best combination of price/performance in Feb. 2013? If the S&W 25 rd mag costs $75, and the Promag $40, which would you go with? Will the shortage of ammo and mags go away in 3 months? 6 months? till the next Presidential election?

Default Promag question

Just got 3 Promags in the mail (paid for 2), got 1 for my "trouble." Haven't made it to the range yet, but has anyone had any issues with the mag "sticking" and not dropping out when pushing the mag ejection button? Or does that just go away with time once they wear down a bit?

Just wipe the outside of the magazine with a rag dampened with a LITTLE CLP or similar and insert and remove the mag a few times.

Just a minor correction in terminology ... It's a mag release, not a mag ejection. No force is exerted upon the magazine to make it drop; it's all gravity.

Never say never LOL! I wish that were still the case. I was able to get a few in Octabor of last year. Hopefully things will start getting better. I have ProMags and haven't had any problems at all (so far).

Try Tacical Vantage as they seem to have the 32 round promags in stock most of the time. Last price I saw was $17.99.

Got my 32 rounders the other day. Went to the range and got a total of 4 stovepipes from one mag (twice on two different full loads). Also had a few fail to feed. Taking the mag out and rotating the top round resolved the issue (no reseating or anything, just rotate). Need to put some CLP on them, though; they weren't free-falling after pushing the mag-release.
Is there some kind of break in period for these? Didn't need to with the factory mag.

I didn't get my Promags....after a couple months and everybody that ordered theirs after I ordered mine got them I called until I finally got through with somebody to cancel my order. I'm hoping I'll come across some S+W mags sometime soon.

Manufacturing tolerances are different. Polish the inside of the mag well and the outside of the mags.

I ordered 5 Promag 32's from Tactical Vantage on 3/19, and they shipped on 3/22. Should have them this Tuesday. I have the same mags on backorder since early Feb from Promag, and still no word.

If I could have ordered a dozen S&W mags, I would have done so directly from S&W. A bunch of S&W mags I have on backorder with various vendors are due in who-knows-when. Cabelas has pushed back my BO from Feb to Dec 2013. Since a ban will be in effect here in Colorado, or should I say the new Cali-rado, I don't expect to ever see my Cabelas order.

So unfortunately, I have to settle for the Promags, as I only have 1 S&W mag right now. Also have the Black Dog Machine 50 rounder, but the ammo with the wax coating tends to bind in the neck by the 4th or 5th load, and then needs to be cleaned.

Compared to the Plinker Tactical's 35 rounder, which seems more reliable? To those who have used or witnessed both. Thank you in advance.

Go with the ProMag. The Plinkers are a 50-50 possibility of junk. Their quality control is non-existent. This is from experience, not reading Internet reports.

I got my 3 in from VT and I had like 1 or 2 hiccups but I didn't think to troubleshoot it. I just chalk it up to either the ammo or just the fact that rimfires aren't 100% reliable.

Will do. Any recommendations to resolve the stove pipes and ftf? Anythink to polish inside the mag itself? The ftf certainly could be improper load, I'm more concerned with the stovepipes...

Tia...

Has anyone seen the promag 32rd mags in stock lately? Do you think these might be a reasonable candidate for a "cut-down" mod to make a 15rd magazine (NJ Compliant)?. I'd be willing to post pics and the process, if I could get a hold of a couple of them.

Tactical Vantage has them in stock about every couple of weeks... Check out their web site and put in for a notification on the long 10 round mags which can be modified to 32 rounds pretty easily from what I understand.

I got my two 32 round mags in today from vantage tactical and my mags fit super snug in the mag well. If I press the mag release button they wont drop freely. They wont even move haha I have to press the button and pull the mag out. It doesn't really bother me that much since i dont do mag changes or anything like that. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem

It's called manufacturing tolerances. Not uncommon at all with moulded products. A light touch with some 400 grit paper on the sides of the magazines solves the situation.
