Default Newbie with an optics mounting question

I have been lurking for a while. Lots of very knowledgeable folks on this forum!

Just picked up the MOE version and I am looking to ad the UTG BugBuster 3-9X32 for some 100yd plinking. It comes with Leapers quick release medium height rings, but I'm not sure that those rings will allow for clearance over the flip up sights (folded). In a perfect world, I would be able to find a combination that would have see-thru rings that would allow for back up sight use without removing the scope, but that doesn't look like it's possible. Quick release mounts seem to be the only option to get clearance over the folded backups, and be able to swap from flip ups to scope relatively fast.

I sent a couple emails to retailers and they won't swap out the quick release medium rings for the tall version since they are pre-packaged with mediums.

What you guys recommend for a riser or other set up that allows for the UTG BugBuster scope to fit without removing the backup sights? Pics of the setup would be great too!

For best results you want your scope to be mounted as close to the bore as possible. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use the iron sights and the scope at the same time. However you can add a set of 45* iron sights to your rail, that will be your best bet to be able to have irons and a scope.

You could put a carry handle A2 rear sight on it, with an adapter rail on top for the scope. I do this with my 15-22 with a reflex sight on top.

For a scope though, the best setup is to have it as low as possible and not use the iron sights.

A 0.5" riser will probably do it, but you are better off just removing the iron sights and put the medium rings right on the upper's rail. This is the same scope I have on my 15-22 and my oldest grandson has on his.

The mounts are QD and you can remove the scope are put the irons on in under a minute and the zero will be close enough not to require sight adjustment.

The only two situations I personally can justify messing with both kinds of sights at the same time is actual combat and combat-simulation matches.

I have the 45deg sites on Mine for easy acquisition..

My reflex is used on it mainly... but Like the rotation ability of the 45deg... makes it fun and adds a new twist to my shooting

If ya really want backups... try the 45deg.... youll like em...

Thank you all for the info. The 45 degree sights sound like a good option.

For now I'm going to give the medium UTG QR rings with .5 UTG riser a try. Looks like everything will clear and will allow for switch back to Magpul sights with ease.

Hey, I know it's been a few years, but that riser you used looks to be exactly what I need...it seems to be less than 13 slots, is that correct? I am trying to find a 1/2" riser with less than 13 slots, but all one piece, JUST like the one in your picture. Please steer me in the right direction. (I have the same gun and same scope).

Being a pain again. I have yet to see someone who uses a scope ever use their irons after.
It simply takes up space and added weight and its money out of your pocket.
Good irons arent cheap.
Imo spend your hard earned money on good optics and ammo.
Unless your doing match shooting with irons, a rds or scope is best.
Sorry I know its not as helpful as others but Im saving you money!
