Default Darkening the bolt finish

I know many of you have polished and engine turned the bolt surface of your rifles. I'm kinda wanting to go in the opposite direction. Does anyone have a blued or coated bolt in a matte black or dark color? How about recommendations for this process. With as many 15-22 projects as I have going currently, I surely don't have time for this but it's something I've been thinking about lately.

Any of the commercial bluing products will do it. Just follow the directions and make sure it is totally grease and oil free, including and especially fingerprints.

Just know that the bluing is going to rub off the bolt where ever it rubs against the upper.

If you do not wnt to do a permenate modification, take a look at the following product.

It is called "E&L Gun and Reel Lube.

It is a dry graphite spray, that was develpoped for use in space, so it works at -100 degrees below zeroto +1000 degrees.

You apply it like spray paint, and when it dries, it stays in place.

Water will not remove it. You can use regular lube over the top of it if you want to.

If/when you want to remove all of it just use Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber.

I have been using it for as long as I can remember, over 30 years or so.

E&L MFG. INC. 602-488-2596

It is also great for all kinds of household, and other sporting uses, as it is a good lubricant, and is not oily, does not dry out and does not attract dust, dirt or sand.

It is dark grey in color.
