Opinions of Shorty vs Long Mags
Again I realize this probably doesn't pertain to the majority on the forum but I still would like you opinions. Since I am in one of the "compliant" states, (NJ) while waiting for my NICS to come through on my newly purchased M&P 15-22 I thought I'd throw this question out there. Seems like NICS here are taking 8-10 days now. Are there any advantages vs disadvantages of the "shorty" 10 round mags and the "long" 10 round mags? I understand the full size will hold 25 rounds in the free states. Seems like the long or full size mags make the 15-22 look like it's "big brother." I have looked through the picture thread and have seen nobody posting a pic of a shorty mag. Are they taboo or maybe the owners of them are embarrassed with them?

I would say it is a matter of what you think or like. I have 1 short 10 rounder comes in handy when I zero and confirm zero and optics off a bench/table. I think if I could only have 10 rounds I would have probably looked at getting several shorties. But right now getting a mag is hard enough. I did get a couple promag 10 rounders that I converted to 32, those to me would be the worst if left as 10 rounders long and for no real reason. But that's just my humble opinion.

I use both type all the time depending on the type of shooting I am doing. The short mags work great for bench work. I use the longs if I doing timed target transition drills or "run and gun" type competitions. (easier to get out of a mag pouch for quicker reloads)
Best to have both in my opinion.

Since u live in NJ, and we all know the Liberals dont know their @** from a hole in the ground. I'd say u may want to stick with the 10rd shorty. Just in case one of those Liberals wants to say ur rifle is evil because it "looks" like it holds more than 10rds.
It's almost like them saying citizens shouldnt own Assault Rifles. Of course we know the difference, but once again those Liberals are going by the looks again.

I'm a little "embarrassed" to post this but here you go. I have four (4) 10 round shorts. My 25 round mags have never been loaded.

If you are planning on doing any bench shooting, you will want some 10 round shorts.

I rarely load more than 10 rounds now so my range sessions will last longer lol. I have 4 shorties on order with S&W

The "shorts" are my favorite because of their convenience, I keep a number loaded in my kit but have never unwrapped the 25's. currently I have an order for two more ( made 1-4-13) when S&W catches up.

While I have several 25 rd mags. the only ones I use on a regular basis are my short 10 round mags.
FWIW the 25 rd. mags give the gun the "AR-15" look but to me the short 10rd mags give the 15-22 a look of a 20rd .223 mag.

Are the 10 rounders hard to get these days? I want one or two, I have plenty of 25's.

Thankfully I don't live in a state with mag restrictions but if I did I would prefer the shorts. As a matter of fact I would like to be able to pick up a few shorts. To me, a 10 round long mag just seems like a waste of polymer. I also like 20 round mags for my AR. That is not to say that I don't have several long ones but usually don't ever load my AR mags past 20 anyway.

I am in an unlimited mag state and I prefer the 10 rd short. In my opinion any of the 25/32/35 mags make the rifle look more like an AK vs. AR due to the curve. That being said the 10 rd short seems to be much harder to find now than the 10 rd long. I'm guessing S&W is putting their production where the most demand is which is the larger std. capacity mags, since the 10 rd short would be available to most compliant states other than NY and even if some Fed mag ban passed (unlikely but never say never). I've passed on a number of 10 rd longs because I really don't want them. Besides if things go bad I'm reaching for the 30 rd PMAGS, Lancers, D&H & Battlemags NOT the 15-22 mags...

Was a problem with my M&P 22 and also the 9mm. I really like your mod of the magazine to a 15 rounder! I'm thinking even 15 rounds will go away if NJ has anything to say about it. Feel like doing the mod on a few 25 rounders for me if I could find them?
I'm located in South Jersey, wonder whether we have talked before. Where are you?

North Jersey. You can order mags pretty easily directly from S&W. I got mine in 5 weeks when I ordered in Feb. Others are getting them now in 3-4 weeks when they order directly from S&W. Avoid the gougers. Mags cost $23 from S&W including the shipping.

I have both, but generally prefer to use the 10 round magazines. Would love to find a few more short 10's!

i have the stock 25 rounder and 5 promag 32 rounders but wish i could get my hands on 3-4 of the smith short 10 rounders just for bench shooting.the 25 and 32 round mags arent the best to use when using a bipod on a bench and i have to hang my mags off the table to shoot with them if bench shooting.

I live in a free state and can own any capacity. I prefer the 10 rounders. The grandkids do not go thru the ammo near as fast with a ten and they work great off the bench. I do own twenty five rounders for those times I want to shoot at the steel.

I have 3 25 rd mags (one that came with gun and two converted 10 longs), and 3 PT 35 rd mags (work flawlessly for me ).
I live in Ohio so its all legal but i would really enjoy having two or three 10 rd shorties. Would be nice for bench shooting and zeroing in sights.

My 10 round Long mags are all defective.
These little pins keep "falling" out of them.

You too? I had this happen to the first one out of the bag. The others are sealed but I'm pretty sure it will happen to them.
On the discussion of short 10-rounders, I've seen none, yet I've gotten numerous notifications from MidwayUSA for the long 10-rounders, and finally ordered last night in time to get them into the cart, purchased, and on their way.
