Default Shipping Costs

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about what seems to be an increase in shipping costs from many vendors, one in particular - Natchez. From TN to VA, the cost to ship one box of ammo (4.4) lbs is $17.04, yet I've ordered multiple boxes from further distanced vendors and paid about the same price. Surely Natchez has a corporate/business account with UPS, which is about half their normal shipping rates. Or maybe, they just aren't passing those saving on to the customer. This isn't only Natchez, but several others also.

Or, maybe, I just don't understand the shipping business. Any UPS employees care to comment?

I'm not sure how certain places come up with their shipping charges either. For example: Troy Industries charges $19.07 UPS Ground Shipping for a BattleSight, which is their cheapest shipping option. That same sight could fit into a $5 USPS Priority Mail envelope...

Just a general answer not just about gun /ammo/ related products.

Shipping/handling charges are getting to be a big scam. Normally how it goes is a company advertises something at a good/reasonable price, but then the tack on such high S&H charges that they made a very good profit. I’m in a few car forums and many of the vendor/ dealers are doing this TRICK. This then generates a lot of threads/posts about this getting to be common practice

Look at all the stuff offered on TV commercials.” But wait just pay additional S&H charges and we will double your order.” That or like I said above the item in question seem to be at a good price, but then the attack you with ultra high S&H charges.
