Default all parts are ordered or in my possession

for me to be able to put on my magpul mid lenght handgaurd
i had a slight issue trying to get a delta ring assembly but found a rock river arms assembly at one of my LGS's.i havent been in this store before and man was i missing out.he had about 50k rounds of 5.56mm ammo piled up and ready to sell,AR-15's as far as the eye could see,and some really nice ones too.he had a few H&K AR-15 that were master pieces of gunsmithing.i was completely drooling over the one H&K 5.56 with a trojicon ACOG sight on it.the price tag was just a tad out of my range though.
anyway back to my hanguard conversion.i ordered the 4 piece kit from tacicool the other day and it has shipped out today,my barrel nut and gas block should ship out tomorrow.i already have the front ring that mounts to the gas block, delta ring, and handguard.if all goes well i should have my stock quadrail off and new magpul guard on.

on a side note once things settle down with some family issues(death in my immediate family)i plan on buying a new AR-15.i am torn between the M&P15 or the Rock River i was looking at today.

1st, sorry for your loss.

Next, where in St. Pete is this store you are describing? Sounds like I really have to pay them visit.

the store is named SRT supply direct.
5019 ulmerton road
clearwater,florida 33760
727-573-8547

the 5.56mm ammo was being sold in 500 round boxes for $349+tax.they literally had at least 50k rounds stacked up in front of their showcase.im buying my rock river AR-15 from them as soon as i get the money.they also has a web page with a blank trust form for suppressors.all you do is print it out, fill it out,and go get it witnessed by a notary and then you dont have to pay a lawyer to setup the trust.

Ahhhh, know the place well. Haven't been in there in a couple months. They must have restocked since I stopped in last.

Thanks for the info, guess I need to stop in and bother those folks again.

well i finally got all the parts needed to put my magpul handguard on and it looks sweet.for some odd reason the wrench i got from tacticool just wouldnt fit into the sock s&w nut so i had to do a little filing to make it drop into the nuts grooves but i got it to work.what i find really strange is that my barrel nut was literally hand tight.i didnt have to use the vise jaws i got with the tacticool kit and was able to loosen the nut with just my hand,no wrench,no vise, hmmmmm.anyway i tightened the new adapter nut nice and tight with the wrench provided from tacticools kit.i used a rock river delta ring assembly and barrel nut and a YHM gas block.i went with a small gas block just cause i thought it would look good and im happy with my choice.i found some .040 thick aluminum to use for spacers since the gas block has a .750 ID bore and the barrel is only .670 so there is a .080 difference.that leaves you with .040 under both sides of the gas block to make it fit tightly.im waiting on a magpul 3.5" rail to mount my laser sight onto the handguard,my FDE charging handle from tacticool, and i nice rifle bag i found and then im done buying suff for this gun.all my money from here out is going to buying a rock river AR-15.i only plan on adding a carbon handguard, scope, bipod, and maybe having the magpul grip and butt stock i get hydro dipped to look like carbon fiber.enough rambling so here are the before and after pics.

before

and now

close up of delta ring assembly

and gas block setup

oh here are some pics of targets from my last shooting session with my scope after being somewhat dialed in.
6" diameter target at 50yds with 32 rounds fired at it.

12" 100yd sight in target from 50yds with 64 rounds fired at it.

i have a laser bore sight on the way so i should be able to really dial in my scope for even better accuracy.

Came out nice!!

And for the number of rounds fired, nice groups as well.

Thanks for sharing your experience with installation. With all these different handguard threads, I'm going to end up spending some money.

Very cool and nice work with your 15-22!

Sounds like you definitely had a loose barrel nut which seems to be more common than we all think. Mine got loose and I had to get the wrench to tighten it up. I could rest on my rail and shoot groups but when I rested on the mag, the group's elevation was off by about 3 inches at 25 yards!!! That's when I knew I had a problem.

In regards to the 5.56 ammo, your LGS has it for about double what it should be. That's likely why he has 50k rounds of it. I just picked up 300 rounds for .34 a round. You just have to shop around. Got it at Walmart and didn't have to be there at 7am to get it.

my local wally world doesnt have one round of ammo EVER in the past few months.as for the 5.56 ammo price,i know it is on the high side but i have seen much higher at gun shows.the one guy was selling reloads for $1.50/round lol.he sold out of 10k rounds in 20 minutes.i dont have a 5.56 rifle ATM so the ammo isnt a concern right now,it was jst nice to see a good stock of ammo at one store for a change.

thanks for the compliment on my grouping,i was firing at a quick rate as well(as quick as the range allows).they only allow you to fire one round approx every 2 seconds i think ill be able to get even better groupings once i bore sight the rifle instead of firing 3 rounds and adjusting, and so on.
