Default Brand new Magpul series BROKEN!

Just purchased the Magpul series of the 15-22. The adjustable stock was nearly impossible to extend/retract (yes I depressed the release)! Upon trying to extend, the movable portion of the stock came flying off the secured portion that has the retention holes in it. I found a small piece of plastic on the floor. The stock can be reattached but flies off every time I try to extend. Anyone heard of this before? Do I contact S&W or magpul? Pretty peeved right now.

do you live in a compliance state, and perhaps th stock was pinned down? that could be the reason for it being "stuck"

My MOE Magpul stock was very hard to extend when I bought it. I sprayed some Armorall on it and worked it back and forth several times. It works much easier now, but is still a tight fit. That's not all bad. No vibration in use.

Nope, live in SC. I tried armor all and even gun lube on the whole assembly, nothing loosened it. Now the damn thing is broken and I'm a little pissed.

Got a pic or two of the part that's broken? If it's from the stock rail, it'd be a S&W thing. If it's the Magpul portion, it'd be Magpul. Either way, I'd say you'll end up footing the bill most likely.

Tried taking pics but they don't show the problem. On the stock rail the last hole (farthest from the weapon) had some plastic stripped which is allowing the catch bolt to slide past it causing the stock to come off the weapon.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. Give S&W Customer Service a call in the morning. They will make it right.

So the stock will go back on the receiver extension but flies off when the stock is in the last notch furthest from the lower receiver, correct? Will it stay put in any of the other positions?

It sounds like either the last notch on the receiver extension is stripped out or the stock is broke if it won't stay in any position on the receiver extension. I would just contact S&W CS and I'm sure they'll get things sorted out.

Sounds to me like the OP tried to get the stock off the rifle without knowing how to remove it correctly. It will not slide off by using only the adjustment lever. And if you force it, what has happened to him (OP) will happen. The stock adjustment lever has to be pulled down from the front and extended further then it goes by using only the adjustment lever to adjust the stock position. Ruined lower (FFL item) is the result. There is nothing other then trying to force the butt stock off the buffer tube ( I know the 15-22 does not have one, but the molded replica) will cause this issue.

It's going to take an incredible amount of force to get the stock to come off the buffer tube without pushing the lever down vs. squeezing up as you do to adjust the position. As mentioned, if the buffer tube is stripped at the end, it is what it is. Since it's integrated in the lower, the whole thing would have to be replaced. Again, just pulling back on it is not going to strip it off the end unless you're a gorilla.

I have been called a Gorilla in the past and can assure you the release lever was depressed trying to extend the stock! The last hole on the buffer tube is where the piece of plastic came off, I can see the hollow where the plastic was. S&W contacted me and said to send it in, postage and insurance paid by them but they have a 6-8 week minimum turn around time. I'm really getting pissed because I drove 3 hours to get this weapon and was to stupid to check the stock before I left.

Just trying to help, mind you. To "remove" the stock from the rifle. You do "Not" depress the lever in the same manner you do to change positions. You have to pull down on the front of the lever (you can extend the lever further this way) to remove it. It is designed so normal use of the lever keeps the butt stock from coming off when changing positions. When you pull down from the front, you can collapse the detent and spring further then is allowed by squeezing the movement lever normally. This allows the detent to collapse enough to clear the channel on the "buffer tube" and come off the rifle. Not sure if that makes sense or not, it is hard to describe. I replaced my stock 15-22 stock with a Magpul CTR and had a heck of a time figuring it out on how to remove it. Until I googled it and looked at some videos anyways.

Oh......you are a Gorilla
