Relex Sight Trouble
For the record, I know that when you buy a cheap reflex sight you can't expect much, so don't tell me I should have bought an aimpoint. A few months ago I bought a Truglo reflex sight for my 15-22.
While shooting it today, the dot started to dim after the rifle fired. I didn't have a coin or something similar with me to tighten down the battery cover. I hope it is just a case of a slightly loose battery cover.
Other than the sight being cheap, does anyone have any ideas as to what causes this? Has anyone else had this trouble.
And yes, an aimpoint or eotech would have been a better optic, but dropping about $400 is not an option for me. Neither is $200 for a vortex sparc.

Maybe the battery is dying, if it's a few months old. Put a new battery in it and see if the problem goes away.

I just tightened the battery cover as much as I could with a coin. I'm going to head over to my indoor range now and test it out. If this fails I'll try the new battery.

Battery would be an obvious solution. If it still doesn't work after that then it's a defective unit. There a plenty of sights that are under $90. Check out the bushnell TRS and primaryarms.com. Both are/have quality sights.

If it's that Russian Reflex sold under 20 or 30 different brands I can tell you from experience that the battery life isn't close to what the literature claims. I had a Sightmark label of this particular sight and as I recall the battery was good for only about 6-10 hours, after that it was off to purchase another CR-2032.

The more inexpensive red dots definitey use more power.
Change the battery.
(I can buy about 200 years worth of batteries for my cheaper red dot optics for the price difference between my Aimpoint CompM2 and the TRS-25....)

I tightened down the battery cover some more, and went to the range to test it out. The problem seems resolved. I think the battery cover may have loosened because it is the top of the dial that turns the optic on/off and controls intensity. That, and a lot of rounds.
In the future I'll look at something from Primary arms. Sadly, an aimpoint is waaaay out of my budget.

use iron or " open sights" you should master them before relying on your red dot. if your red dot fails.. you will be able to use your Iron sights.

Glad you got it worked out, just go on and get some spare batteries & have fun.
As far as the high dollar sights I wouldn't worry about them it is a .22 we are talking about here. JMO but that would be like putting a set of F-1 tires & wheels on a Toyota Corolla....you still have a .22/Toyota Corolla lol

Just for future information, in high humidity areas moisture can get into battery chambers and cause corrosion on battery contacts, inhibiting current flow. Often, just removing the battery and wiping both it and the chamber's contacts can remedy problems such as you experienced.

Your reply is not relevant to my op.
I am proficient in the use of iron sights. The rifle is set up with a magpul front mbus, and I have the stock rear sight on it, so any problems with the optic don't stop me.
The reflex sight is on this rifle for fun.

Iron sights are legacy sights. They have not changed the way they work since they put rifling in guns.
Modern, high quality optics are pretty darn death proof. There is nothing fundamentally wrong or evil about learning to shoot with an optic.
Even if you do manage to kill a RDS, if backup sights are your backup there is no need to train with them as your primary aiming system.

No problems here have the same reflex sight. Might be the battery, mine has lasted for 5 months now, no change of battery. To add as well sometimes I forget to fully click it off and will come back to it being lite for about a day or two. Might of done the same thing to yours and ran the battery low.
