Default Problems with my 15-22.Sending back to S&W questions?

I did a search of the forums but I have bad luck with searches,can't seem to find the tag words to match up with the info I seek.

Went to the range today and my 15-22 is firing 3-5 round bursts with one pull of the trigger.
Any ideas what might be happening?

How about some info regarding sending the 15-22 back to S&W for repairs.
How do I go about it? Does the USPS or UPS ship firearms? Or do I need to send it thru a firearms dealer? If possible I would prefer to send it thru a dealer for the simple fact when it is returned to me don't want USPS or UPS to just leave it on the front porch if no one is home to accept delivery.

Can I ship it in the original box I received it in when new?

Any other tips or pointers are appreciated as I've never been thru this before.

Go to Smith & Wesson's website. Fill out the form for a warranty return shipping label from Fedex. They will e-mail you a label which you can print for free return shipping. After you pack the rifle and attach the return sticker, call Fedex and they will pick up the package at your door. You can also take the package to a Fedex company shipping station but not one of their "stores".

Hi Bruce,
Thanks much for the info. Can I arrange with Fedex for them to leave it at their shipping station when it is returned and I'll pick it up from their station? Don't want it left on my porch if no one is home to accept delivery.

Is the FCG stock? Have any modifications been done to it? Sounds like a problem with the disconnector and/or disconnector spring.

That said, do not fire the rifle any more. In it's present condition it is a machine gun and is very much illegal.

s&w will require someone over 18 years of age to sign for the firearm. they will not let it sit at the front door. once it is repaired adn shipped, they will email you a tracking number and the day before it is scheduled to deliver, fed ex will give you a robocall telling you it is to bedelivered the next day and someone over 21 needs to be there to sign for it. at any point after fed ex has the package, they can be contacted and they will find the nearest fed ex facility that it can be picked up at...

comically, the one that i picked mine up at had all kinds of "no firearms" signs...lol

Hi Major,
All the internals are factory stock,no mods.
Yes,illegal and dangerous in this condition. I noticed the problem with the first mag,thought maybe something with the ammo. Tried a second mag with different ammo,same issue.
Packed it up and brought it home. My day at the range was cut short.

Bummer! S&W will fix it and have it back to you in a couple of weeks. Is this rifle new, just out of the box?

I had that happen to a pistol many moons ago and it was very disconcerting, to say the least.

No,this is not the new one. This is my original 15-22,only has just under 2000 rounds thru it.

i just got mine back on the 5-14. i dropped it off at fed ex on 5-6. i got the email with the tracking number on 5-11. they had quick turn round on mine...hoping for the same for you!

1-800-331-0852 Call them and they will email you a FEDEX shipping label that you just tape to the box and send it (cant drop it off at a FEDEX office they will have all the info in the email. They will also tell you what you need to send with it. S&W customer service is top notch. Sent mine in last week thursday and I will get it back on tuesday (FTE's).

When my extractor (DTX serial prefix) flew the coupe, I had my rifle back from S&W in exactly 7 days from the time I sent it in. They replaced the entire bolt assembly and gave me the blue spring upgrade, but didn't mention at all what they did.

I dont know about Fed ex, but I used to work for UPS. If a package requires an adult signature the driver is unable to complete the stop until his board is signed. If they catch him forging a signature he will be fired.

Call S&W and tell them your M&P15/22 is doubling or tripling. Hopefully, you did not modify it. They should send you a shipping label. Package it up with a letter of instructions describing what your rifle is doing. Be sure to include your return address and a day time phone number in case they need to contact you.

Just got my rifle back from S&W on Tuesday, came with piece of paper that detailed what they did. :-)

I was fortune enough to get one of the very first runs of the 15-22,,,,, it was a complete dog, do good to get 2-3 rounds of before a stoppage. Never did send it in until 6 weeks ago, it was back within 10 days to Ms. Gave this one to my daughter--- no complaints-- so I assume it is fine now. You will get a quick turn-a-round,,, had to send back my AR-15 several years ago,, same deal,, and not a bobble since.
