We all know the stocks are loose, any quick fix ideas.I thought about taping the tube as a temp fix ?

I went the expensive route. I bought one of the Safariland SS-M4 stocks that has a locking lever so you can lock it down once you have it adjusted where you want it.

Not a cheap fix ($76) but I went with the Magpul CTR Mil-Spec stock, for both my AR & 15-22. The wobble you get from other stocks just bothered me greatly. You adjust them like any other stock but when you get it in the right spot, you engage the friction lock, and the wobble is gone. It is rock solid. Soon as you hit the adjust lever again, the friction lock automatically releases.

Take about a 5" piece of black electrical tape and put it on the inside of the top of the stock bore where is slides on to the buffer tube.. Worked great for me until I bought my Magpul ACS-L.

ok, maybe a new stock in long run, is the buffer tube MIL spec or Commercial spec ?

You'll want the Mil-spec for the 15-22 tube.

CTR is good, but since then I've put the STR on another one of my rifles, and like the cheek weld better...

I did the same thing and have no regrets, even though Connecticut's stupid AWB requires it to be pinned. I also put the 0.70 butt pad on it. The 15-22 doesn't really need it for recoil reduction, , but it does add to the appearance ... which is why we put a lot of the stuff on our 15-22s that we do.

Discussion is about stock wobble... not cheek weld. I considered the STR, for the storage aspect, however I went the CTR route because a wobbly stock was more of a concern for me. The STR does not have a friction lock, does it? I have tried several stocks that wobble less than the OEM stock however none locked down like the CTR (and possibly the Safariland). Cheek weld is very individual and subjective. What is great for one shooter is not so great for another. However a stock that does not move a bit is objective. My CTR, with friction lock engaged, is rock solid.

Got the CTR aswell, amazing stock, my fav. Lock it and its good, no wobble, no play. Just greatness

the str does indeed have a friction lock just like the ctr.

according to Magpuls specs it also has a longer LOP than the ctr stock.

ctr: LOP, M4 Extended: 13.95 in.
str: LOP, M4 Extended: 14.35 in.

Thanks for the info. Now that I see the price I remember why I decided I didn't need the storage. That is a great stock.
