Default Forward charging handle

I have a forward charging handle now on my 15-22 and was wondering if there is an interest in this product. It is basically a slip on item so no modification is required to your rifle. The idea has been bouncing around my head for a while and have finely made one. It defiantly will come in handy with my Bullpup lower but I also see a use in the stock configuration. Any interest out there?

Interested, but a little concerned.

This works well, on HK rifles or an AUG for instance, where the entire mechanism is internal to the receiver.

I've seen it attempted over the years on AR platform guns, but never could learn to trust the mechanism. The "what happens" if you forget to get your face out of the way while you are attempting to hold the sight picture and rack the charging handle is a little scary.

I only have a crapy picture right now and am reluctant to show it because it is so crapy.
The charging handle only moves about 1 3/4" so on a standard 15-22 I don't see how the charging handle can hit your face unless you are very small and your face in on the buffer tube.

I don't understand the purpose of this, or even how it operates.

Photos are necessary to have an idea what you are talking about.

Does the extra weight cause cycling issues?

I like my rifles as snag free as possible, so I doubt I would be interested.

Pics would help.

I use an EoTech XPS2 on my 15-22. When the stock is extended to positions three or four (where I typically store the gun), my nose is pretty much touching the charging handle latch.

If I kept the same cheek weld and racked a forward handle... Well, that would kind of smart.

BTW: your size reference is reversed. I am reasonably tall and have a long neck. So I'm pretty well forward on the stock when I acquire the sight picture.

I think it'd be similar to this:

That one is obviously for a standard AR-15.
Basically, just moves the point at which you grab the charging handle and operate it.

If it's like the picture above that I posted, it shouldn't reciprocate and shouldn't affect the operation of the action in regular use. May add a potential snag point though.

OK, now I understand.

No, I am not interested in one. My NDZ handles serves me just fine. It's a plinking rifle, not a combat firearm.

That picture I posted is just conjecture at this point. I'm not sure what the "slip on" aspect of it means. Does it replace the stock or upgraded handle/latch? Or will it attach to one or the other? I'm still interested in knowing more.

The forward charging handle would be more of a comfort thing than anything else. Instead of releasing your grip and reaching behind the bolt to charge the round, about 16", you would just lift your forward hand up a little to charge it.
A forward charging handle is almost necessary on a bullpup but no so much on an AR platform. Again is more of a comfort thing or a speed thing because its closer to the forward hand.
I am posting this crapy picture because you wanted it so please no comments on the crapy picture but comment all you want on the simple, yet completely reliable and functional forward charging handle.

I also think I will do an internal forward charging handle that fits the bullpup exclusively.

Kinda cool but I think it would have a better feel to it on the right side of the rifle... just my 2 cents...

Maybe for a lefty, but a right handed shooter would have to completely disengage his grip to actuate the handle.

No I'm right handed... my SKS or AK47 has it's charging handel on the right side and that what I was comparing it to... it would just feel better to me... each his own I guess... I can hold the weight of the rifle from the hand guard better.. just my 2 cents...

Yeah, for plinkin Zombies!!!

I call it "Plinkin Zombies" cuz they don't shoot back.

They just make gutteral noises and move slowly.

And chomp anyone (or anything) that moves slower than they do!!

Git sum.

I think it would be a great idea for your bull pup and it looks good on there but I couldn't see using it on the 15-22 in its standard configuration.

I like having more options, and I like this forward charging handle. Definitely for the bullpup, but I'd be interested in seeing it on a regular rifle as well. Does this require any modification to the upper receiver to work? Would the bullpup internal version be in the bullpup stock itself?

telero, the prototype forward charging handle I made works very well and is a slip on so there is no modification to the rifle except a small hole drilled into the charging handle catch. It still works as a rear charging handle at the same time also.
The internal version for the Bullpup will be ambidextrous and will mostly be built into the Bullpup. The design is still in my head and am trying to figure out how to make it work for both so its still in the design phase.

OK, now that look closer I can see where it attaches to the charging handle. So it must actuate the original charging handle at the same time as the forward? In the bullpup will it com in from the bottom and actually push the bold backwards? And not actually have to move the rear handle at all?
