Received some Cool items from
kineti-tech today for all the .22LR fans. Let's face it, nowadays ammo is expensive and .22LR is a nice way to get some trigger time in without breaking the bank. (Comparatively speaking) Anything made to increase my plinking enjoyment, I'm all for it!
We will be taking a closer look at their over barrel shroud for the M&P 15-22.
The
kineti-tech barrel shroud for the 15-22 and other .22lr rifles with 1/2"x28 threads is made from 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum. Nice clean machine work. Great craftsmanship. The front end cap is threaded and has a rubber O-ring. The back end cap is pressure fit with 2 O-rings. Does it silence your rifle? NO. Does it make your soda can squirrel killer look badass? Hell Yeah! LoL All kidding aside, I did find some nice benefits to this shroud that I didn't expect.
Admittedly, I have always considered my 15-22 a range toy. Usually, when we bring younger or first time shooters to the range, I'll hand them the 15-22 first. It's light and has zero recoil, making it a perfect tool for easing new shooters into black rifle disease.
But can it be a viable training tool for the avid AR shooter? I have always found the 15-22 to be too light. It feels like a toy gun. When you shoulder it and point it, it just feels like plastic. After I added the barrel shroud (approx. 8oz.) to the end of the barrel, wow, it feels more like a real AR!
The weight and feel transitioning from target to target and even the motion of reloading feels more authentic. I added a DD trigger and b5 systems stock and I now have a training tool that mimics closely the feel and mechanics of my full sized AR, but can be used in drills that would normally cost a lot more to shoot.
I'll also mention that the OAL of the rifle was reduced by 3/4" by adding the shroud vs. a flash hider. So there you have it. Who knew that thing that goes up, could actually make a difference? Hah
