Default Pistol Grip

I'm changing the grip on my 15-22. The factory grip has 2 holes in the top for the safety and rear takedown pin detent springs.

My new grip only has the hole for the safety spring detent. Has anyone put a new grip on without drilling a small hole in the grip for the takedown pin detent?

I swapped my grip out for a Mission First Tactical grip with one hole and it works fine. Also, my rifle (a PC version) came from S&W with a Hogue grip that had only one hole and it worked fine too.

I put a Hogue on mine. You don't use the 2nd Hole on the M&P 15-22.....but I needed the 2nd hole on my M&P 15

Heads Up, (x2)...
1. Could've sworn you need both springs and pins, otherwist the takedown pin won't remain retained?
2. I ended up kinking my rear takedown spring when I installed my Magpul Khaki MOE grip due to not paying enough attention to alignment. Fortunately, it wasn't so badly bent to use better attention to detail the second try around.
In hindsight, I would cover my grip & receiver with a rag when removing to avoid launching the spring or pin into oblivion.
SWF Historical Link attached.

They aren't saying you don't need the two springs and detents. You don't need two holes in the pistol grip for the rifle to function properly.

I put a CAA grip on mine and drilled a slight hole in it so that the spring would fall in. I tried putting it on without it first but noticed that the spring bent pretty bad so I took it back off and drilled the extra hole.

So which is the most preferred/ popular contoured grip?
I like the look of the Hogue over moulded but there
Are so many to choose from. Opinions any where?

I like the Hogue, I have it on my 15-22 and AR. If I could put one on my MuzzleLoader I probably would...
