Default 15-22 Blue Spring Spare

Does anyone happen to have a new 15-22 Blue Spring that they'd be willing to sell? Mine was lost somehow, so my 15-22 is inoperable S&W says they're out of stock and on backorder. Just wondering if someone would be willing to sell a spare if they bought extras.

Part Number: s&w407790000 BLUE bolt spring

Thanks!

Just call S&W and tell them you lost your spring. I'm sure they'll send/sell you a new one. If you call again, you might get a different answer.

I'm curious how you could lose it; It's a fairly large spring.

Me too, unfortunately. It sits in the safe 99% of the time. I had just taken it out to ship to the gunsmith to have the muzzle device changed, and, when it got there, they said it was missing. I haven't been able to find it anywhere around here, it's conceivable that it was lost by them. Either way, it's non-functional without a replacement. I'm cool with paying whatever the part costs and shipping, just hard to believe S&W doesn't have any

I think someone is yanking your chain. It takes two hands to remove it from the guide rod on the bolt body. There's no way it can come off accidentally. Your gunsmith removed it. FWIW, it's absolutely unnecessary to remove it to make any change to the barrel.

That doesn't change your problem, but I'd find another gunsmith ... Fast.

Addendum ...

Are you SURE the spring was in place on the guide rod on the bolt before you shipped it? When was the last time you disassembled the bolt?

Many times a back order on a part of a new, means a change in the part to a better one. S&W has changed that spring a couple of times, blue, black and now maybe another ? Also possibly sonic/subsonic for some.

The original spring was black. It was replaced with a stronger one, painted blue, to eliminate a problem with the bolt not completely closing, often causing an out of battery situation.

S&W is probably selling 15-22s as fast as they can make them, negating any extras as spares. I would suspect, however, that if the rifle was returned for repairs, one would be available for that purpose.

Just got my rifle back from S&W yesterday and they put a new spring in it; It's blue.

Maybe I got the last one, sorry....

I am not 100% certain it was on there when I shipped it, so I'm not ascribing blame to anyone but myself. I don't remember ever disassembling the bolt, as the rifle had/has still never been fired. Just been a safe queen until I had the muzzle devices changed. I asked them to confirm that the part was indeed not-in-stock and my order was for the right part and they said that was all correct. Hard to believe for production parts I suppose

Did you purchase the rifle new in the box or used? How long have you had it?

This was purchased new somewhere around Jan-Feb of this year. I recall the bolt having one (I believe) as you could push on it and it would spring back. I don't ever recall personally removing it but I also don't remember if it was there when I shipped it or not. It's possible it "came off" somehow or the gunsmith took it or it "came off" while it was there. Either way I don't know any more than that except they told me it was missing when they got it.

I don't know why you seem so hostile towards me misplacing/losing a part, I'm simply trying to track down a replacement. Suit yourself

Sorry, I don't mean to be hostile. I've just been trying to figure out what happened to the spring.

I am just at a loss to understand how someone can buy a firearm and let it sit for 7-8 months without ever (apparently) doing a takedown of it ... and then it sudden and mysteriously has a missing major part when you decide to do something to the rifle. It's not possible for the recoil spring to accidentally remove itself from the guide rod attached to the bolt body. Someone has to use two hands to remove it.

Since you didn't remove it, then that leaves the person you shipped it to. All of which doesn't solve your problem. I am sorry S&W is currently out of stock on the recoil spring. My suggestion is to get the rifle back and send it to S&W for warranty repair. That is probably the quickest was to get a new spring.

If your gunsmith has already finished with messing with the flash hider, I hope he knew NOT to clamp the receiver in a vice, like is done with ARs but clamped the barrel, instead. If he clamped the receiver and twisted on the barrel, he likely destroyed the upper receiver in the twisting process - and this is not a warranty repair.

The OP also said " I recall the bolt having one (I believe) as you could push on it and it would spring back. " Last time I checked, you PULL on the charging handle and the bolt springs back. This sounds like someone who knows very little about how semi-automatics work, and it's probably better that it is not working.

I would think the best thing the OP could do would be to ship it back to S&W and use the down time to take some basic gun courses. There's just a whole bunch here that doesn't add up.

The only source is S&W. The chance that anyone has an extra, and would let go of it, is next to zero.

Contact S&W and send it to M. They will let you know if your Barrel is shooting safe also. Stay shooting safe.

And with that I think this horse needs to go to sleep. It has been 14 days and he could probably have received one from S&W by now. I feel like if anyone here had one to give up they would have let him know by now. PS. Unless they are still back ordered.

Just out of curiosity, my spring is not blue - do the UK rifles not get the uprated spring?

He asks, nervously awaiting a possible OOB.....

Unless your rifle is over four years old, it's highly doubtful you have the old spring ... Although anything is possible.

Haven't regularly been checking post since I got beat up pretty bad for losing the spring.

Still no word from S&W. Order placed on 8/4, they confirmed it was backordered on 8/20, and no reply/traffic/part since then as of 9/5.

My spring WAS blue. That goes away after around 1000 rounds and a few cleanings

The blue is just paint. Cleaning a couple of times and the paint is gone. At this point it's much ado about nothing.
