Default 15-22 Part Weights

There has been some interest in the weight of the 15-22 and its various components spread over a number of different threads somewhat recently. I was wondering if a consolidated thread with different weights of the factory 15-22 parts as well as aftermarket parts would be good to have. I'll start with the parts I know:

I'd be interested in getting other factory and modified factory part weights as well. For example:
  • Unthreaded barrel weight
  • PC barrel weight
  • Cut down 4" barrel weight
  • Factory stocks

Anything else that might be useful. I didn't break some of the components down further to their individual pieces (bolt, fire control group, barrel extension/ejector), but could if that would be of interest.

I'd like to keep this first post to just factory parts (except the Tacticool barrel nut adapter since it's invaluable in modifying things.) Other posts might include various stocks, handguards, etc.

Thanks! The more I look at the handguard (1/2 lb?!), the more I think it's gotta go. I would probably never put the iron sights back on anyway, so I have no need for all that foregrip and picatinny.

Is the 4" pistol handguard available?

Maybe if you can find a take-off. Not likely to be available as spare parts since the 15-22P was discontinued. Better bet may just be cutting the full size down.

Yeah, just find a band saw and you can have one in any length you choose.

If I remember, I'll get my SBR out tomorrow and post the weight of the 4.5" barrel and the shortened handguard.

I can tell you that 9.5" of a threaded barrel (measured from the muzzle) weighs 13.2oz. That's the piece I cut off to save on shipping when I had mine cut down to 4.5" and threaded.

Awesome. So if I do my math. It seems if I cut my barrel down by 6"
Id save almost 1/2 a pound.

I put all the weight measurements in the other thread where you asked the question. Just making sure you saw them.

Ok...here's the post I put in the other thread where I was asked for SBR weight:

15-22 stripped: 4lb 2.0oz; 1872g
Empty mag: 5.6oz; 159g
Loaded mag: 8.5oz; 242g
Empty drum: 1lb 0.9oz; 480g
Loaded drum: 1lb 6.5oz; 639g
Fake can: 6.5oz; 184g
Spectre II: 7.3oz; 207g
9.5" barrel stub: 13.2oz; 373g
15-22 equipped: 5lb 1.8oz; 2320g

Stripped setup would include the stock, AFG2, MBUS and SPARC...the pieces I don't remove. The equipped would be the way I'd start shooting at the range, with a loaded mag and the Spectre II.

Mags used are standard 25rd S&W. Drum was 50rd Black Dog. Ammo was 40gr Blazer. Fake can is one I had made to match the 1"x6" dimensions of the Spectre II.

Spectre II is listed at 6.8oz, but I've put several hundred rounds through it and haven't cleaned it, yet. The barrel stub is what I cut off the factory barrel to save on shipping when I sent it to ADCO. They then cut it the rest of the way and threaded it to SiCo specs.
(Realized this morning that for those getting very particular, I need to disclose that there's a copy of my F1 in the grip, which weighs 0.2oz/5g)

And then here's some more info after I partially broke mine down today.

MOE stock: 8.2oz; 233g
Front MBUS: 1.2oz; 34g
Rear MBUS: 1.3oz; 36g
8" rail: 7.1oz; 200g
4.5" barrel: 9.0oz; 254g
AFG2: 2.6oz; 73g
Barrel nut: 1.0oz; 27g
CH: 0.5oz; 14g
BCG: 7.4oz; 209g
MOE grip: 2.9oz; 81g

Grip, MBUS and AFG2 include the screw.

And, for anybody that cares, the Tacticool 22 wrench: 6.0oz; 170g

Thought about that. I kinda want to keep the stock parts stock, in case I ever sell the thing. Now if I can find a take-off on fleabay, I wouldn't mind chopping it up.

Short of that (pun intended ), I'm looking to see if I can find a lightweight 4-6" free floater.

Just put on any AR free float hand guard.
Yankee Hill makes all kinds of lengths with all kinds of options.
