Default Form 1 FYI

I electronically submitted my Form 1 on a trust to SBR my 15-22.

The form was submitted 08/28/14 and came back approved 10/02/14.

That's just over a month.

Off goes my barrel to ADCO!

Did the site send you any email updates or notifications of status change? Did the status change on the site itself, when you viewed your account? I'm over 3 weeks in on my second form 1, and this is my first try with efile.

Adco does great work. How are you handling the engraving of the lower?

Silly question reference e-file:

Did you send your trust paperwork in as a PDF or something else?

Just over a month is an outstanding return time!!

Answers to questions:

1) The site never gave me status updates. I received an email with my approved, signed and stamped form attached as a .pdf file.

2) Orion Arms in Minnesota will engrave my polymer lower for $35.

3) I uploaded my trust as a .pdf file when I submitted my online application.

They did mine, which I got back this past Monday. As they will tell you, since they are cutting polymer & not metal, the lettering comes out a bit "fuzzy". I guess if one wanted, one could use a magnifier with a tool & clean it up some. It didn't bother me in the least, as it looks much better than anything I could do by hand.

Yesterday I sent them my AR lower.

I went back and looked at your other pics, and didn't see the engraving. Could you post a pic of how it turned out? Blur out whatever you want.

The site gave you an update by sending you the email with the approved form.

If you long into EForms it'll be under the Approved branch of the tree on the left, instead if being under Submitted.

It's uploaded, not sent. If you have any questions about the process, this thread I created ought to explain it, probably in too much detail for some.

Most personal printers come with a scan feature. Also, lots of folks use a fax service, such as maybe ringcentral. With such a service no fax machine is used, the fax is automatically converted to a pdf & emailed. Maybe you can find someone that has such an account.

My current printer is an old laser type that wont die (HP1200). When it does, I'll buy one with a scanner. Now that fax service sounds like a winner!!

Thanks for suggestions

Got an email today saying my Form 1 for my 300 Blackout was approved. Efiled it on 9-8, so it took just a few days short of 6 weeks. Looks like they are slowing down. I am amazed this occurred on a Saturday. I didn't know the examiners worked on weekends.

My Form 3 that the Silencer Shop submitted, at about the same time I sent in this Form 1, is still waiting approval. At least now I can bring home my ACC upper. That URX3 8" handguard in incredibly lightweight & a thing of beauty. Odd having a proprietary barrel nut but don't see that as an issue. Due to the barrel threads being so close to the handguard, I was unable to remove their flash hider. I emailed ACC & they immediately gave me a RA# and had it back to me within a few days... at no charge & they paid for the return freight. Great Co. !!

My sbr and form 4 308 suppressor both came on Saturday (back before form 4 efiles were stopped). Was equally surprised, but happy to see that the NFA branch was doing everything possible to process everything as expeditiously as the govt allows (remember it's congress that tells them how many examiners through the amount funded)..

Isn't it sad that a form 1 is taking less time to process than a form 3? Something is terribly wrong in the state of Denmark! A sot to sot transfer should be a no brainier...

Hope you enjoy your 300 BO sbr! I know I do. Not as quiet as the 15-22 though. Might still spook your horses...

I am not sure if someone mentioned it here somewhere and I just missed it but...

Polymer can be laser engraved. I just got mine back and it looks just as good as any metal lower I have ever had laser engraved. And I have had several done. All done by Bill Gray at Gray Laser Engraving.

Bill Gray at graylaser.com in San Antonio, TX can take care of you. I called him to discuss it. He said after doing several hundred of them he has pretty much gotten the "laser power" dialed in and can do them no problem. I am sure your desired engraving location can make a difference, but he can tell you what's the best way to go. He told me that the location can make a difference because the thickness of the polymer varies based on location. No surprise there, as I expected that.

I sent him one on Monday (I used FedEx and he got it on Tuesday). He completed the job on Wed., shipped it out on Thurs., and I got it Saturday (he used priority USPS for return shipping.). So, it was 6 days door to door. 55 bucks plus return shipping.

They are good people. His wife will likely answer the phone, as Bill is usually on the machine working. Good work, good price, and most importantly to me, FAST!!!!

Anyway, just another FYI.

Regards,

G.

Thanks for the heads up. Customary around here to show a pic, so we can compare to other methods. Of course, black out some info.

Is laser engraving accepted by the atf for sbr receiver marking? I thought it had to be engraved at a minimum depth that they specified?

From what I understand, the vast majority of SBR engraving is done by laser, so yes, it is deep enough. Orion is the only one I know that uses cutters.

Yea it has to .300 deep. Bill at Gray Laser is well familiar with the requirement as he has/is an SOT. Making damn sure it complies with ATF is one of his priorities. He said his will always comply and then some.

Standby for a pic...I have to figure out how to do it without screwing it up...but the pic is coming.

.003" deep. Most laser engravers are capable of that. Some won't do laser on polymer for whatever reason...others will, just need to ask.

Looks Great! Can they do front of magwell? I prefer that location.

Yeah that. LOL...thanks for correcting me on that. Big difference there.

I am not sure if Bill will do the front of the magwell or not. I know from looking at it, its quite a bit thinner there, so I don't know. I would call Bill and ask. He is a straight shooter and will tell you yay or nay I'm sure.

G.

The front wall of the magwell is where Orion did mine.

Checked with the Silencer Shop today, because their wait time section of their website says Form 3s are being approved withing days or a few weeks. Don't know what they are doing but the guy tells me Form 3s are actually taking 9 weeks and Form 4s are taking 5-6 months.

Not really...there are way fewer Form 1's to process than Form 3's or 4's...

I gave up on my Form 3 transfer for my Spectre II because my dealer got a Sparrow in stock, so I snatched it up...so far I am one month in on my Form 4 wait...
