WalMart and the 22 Ammo stories!
I do not personally know anything about this web site or the author of the article. Just passing it on FWIW. Maybe a hoax post for all I know. Anybody have more knowledge on this?

So today, wally mart had their hunting sale. They had .22lr. I went in about 900 am to get some oil and wander by the ammo case. Picked up 3, 100 boxes of CCI for ~$22. Went back around noon to dispose of the used and got 3 more. Around 7 pm, my girlfriend wanted to get a movie and was able to pick up 6 more because she got her 3 in addition to my 3. Still had plenty in stock.
This is 40 grain un-washed lead CCI 1040 fps. Finally I get to play with the suppressor and quiet ammo.
The Walmart is basically in my backyard. Less than a 5 minute walk from our townhome.

Went to my Walmart today around 8pm and there was no 22lr ammo on the shelf. Glad I went the for something else and didn't just make the trip for the ammo.

I decided not to chase after it, once the hoarders have a truck load and realize that it isn't becoming extinct they will slow down or stop buying. That's already happened with 223,40 & 9 already. Knuckle heads are trying dump it on local ads, funny really

They also have ZQI ammunition on sale. It will be tomorrow also from 8-5. ZQI is 20% off. So a 30 round 5.56 brass case box is marked down to $7.95. I got some of the CCI and grabbed some 5.56.

When I read the article and saw this statement " I spoke with says that he has some twenty-thousand rounds of .22LR wrapped on pallets sitting in the back of his store, with more on the way." I wonder how accurate any of the story is.
20,000 rounds of 22lr on Pallets? You can put 20K rounds of 22long on a small shelf in your closet. I would believe 200,000 rounds on "pallets" but not 20K. Is there some hanky panky going on at Walmart, I'm sure there is but nothing more than in any other store.
Also, saving it up for Black Friday? How dare they do what every other retailer in the world does with every product they want to sell on Black Friday. That article was a waste of print.

20,000 rds is less than 4 cases @ 5500 rds/ case. I call BS (hopefully I can say that). Joe

Yeah I noticed the part about the 20,000 rounds and that was the main reason I said I have no idea bout the writer. It could be totally bogus. I have no experience with the gunnews.com site.

I took my Dad out for breakfast last Tuesday.
After we finished, he asked me to take him to Wal-Mart to get
a pair of shoes. As we were heading towards the shoe
department, we came upon the sporting goods department.
I stopped and asked the woman there if they had any .22LR.
They had Remington Thunderbolts for $2.37 a box of 50.
Apparently they are now selling by the box, and not the brick,
with a limit of three boxes per person. I got six boxes, and we
headed off to the shoe department. Just happened to be at
the right place at the right time.

Thats me to a 'T' I live almost right between two WM's I go to depending on the way I am heading I have not seen any there in months & months, I do have a relative that works at a WM & no matter what WM says the employees do get first pick at what comes in the back door. Between him & the range I use I keep enough to go shooting with the Grandson & have my 15-22 on stand by for the occasional zombie or critter pest.
I had big plans for my 15-22 , but now it is more something to keep in good like new condition to pass along to the grandson.
It was a fun challenge squirrel hunting with the 15-22 but it will stay home the 410 & 20 ga. for small game this year.

Every time I ask at my local Walmart, they always say they do get
22 ammo. Almost daily.
But as soon as it is put out, if sells out.

Thats is a good question , how many rounds do you have to have put back to be a hoarder ?
I have about 500 RDs right now give or take.

One of the benefits of being a "hoarder" is not caring about chasing 22LR anymore.

There was supposed to be a big hunting sale Saturday. The CCI 100s are boxed differently and not copper plated, but at the same price. Saw someone say it was unwashed: hope that doesn't make me think less of CCIs. Found two boxes(3 limit, but the firearms lady said I could only have two) of the 333s, but not at $10.97. Never bought them for that. She said people were coming by all day looking for supposed 22LR availability advertised and going home empty handed. Had to go into town, so stopped by another after she said that and they had at least 50 boxes of the lead CCIs. Bought three to try. If a store says they did not get the big shipments in to hold for yesterday, what can one say? WalMart should ask who received them and who didn't, but that's my .02 worth. One said they got them, and one said they didn't.

500 is a start. 500 is just what I have in my magazines 22 loaded up. I will never tell how many boxes or my round count. I would probably be called a hoarder. I call it being prepared. Compared to some of my friends and what their stash is like....They would say I was just getting started.

One local WM got Fed AutoMatch 325 boxes and the 100 CCI SV. Fed was sold in 10 minutes, they still had the CCI when I got there at 8:15. Another had nothing out, but the till had not been opened. Found a manager, who dug around in the back and found the 22 in a box marked "Black Friday". They had not seen the sale flyer, and thought it was in early for the after-Thanksgiving sale.
The first store still had some CCI today, so I grabbed some more.
Not very happy with it, as the CCI SV doesn't run in the pistol I like the most, but better than nothing. And better than the Federal 1240fps LRN that jams like crazy, but I have a brick of. Lots of revolver food, I guess.
The real deal as I saw it was the ZQI 123g FMJ 9mm (new multicolor box) at (about) $10.35 a box of 50. I had gotten some a couple of weeks ago. It is consistent and did not gum up the gun, so I added a few boxes of that as well.

So I guess it's like the rumors of the gas shortages you know what they caused. Good thing gas does not store very well.
But I do understand if one can't keep a cash of at least 24,888 RDs. then they may not get to go plinking this weekend.
,
Me I buy it when I can find it at a reasonable price & go shoot it with the grandson as soon as we can get away.

I never thought I'd be making this post... the Walmart I shop at hasn't had any .22LR on the self for well over a year.
I wasn't even going to bother checking for any for this "special event", but I decided what the heck since I was down the road doing our weekend Costco run.
HOLLY Freaking ***, on a Sunday afternoon, there on the self, CCI 40gr. SV 100rd boxes... stacked 6 high, 2 rows deep, 15 wide... 180 boxes. And the guy working sporting Goods said there was twice that Saturday.
I bought my max 3 boxes, felt like I won the lottery.
So my question is... so how did Walmart manage to put all of this .22LR in it's stores for this "Hunting Sale", but doesn't seem to be able to keep it stocked otherwise?

Now that is some major hoarding & by one of the few places that did not try to make windfall profits off the shortage.
But wait wasn't the sale on just the same CCI brand all over the country & how long did it take CCI to fill that order ?
All that just to get us in the WM at the start of hunting season

My Walmart here in CT does not have any ammo at all. When I asked about it they gave me a BS answer that they have trouble finding a distributor. This is a bigger Walmart that just opened less than a year ago. The old location (Less than a mile away in the same town) did sell ammo, no 22LR but I did get 9MM & 45Acp.

I do not consider myself a hoarder but 500 rounds is just enough to keep my range bag from sliding around in my truck.
When training the local Sheriff Dept. I would purchase 20,000 rounds at a time but that does not count.

Since I can't find the code for this packaging on the CCI website, I suspect that it was a special deal for WalMart. Probably some trade-offs about stock of the other CCI varieties we have not seen for quite a while.

& Yet still a country that does not or should not stifle a simple question.
& I would hope a forum that does not discourage differing opinions just because they may push the wrong buttons of some.
To 1 & 2 I say pooy to the only real answer I say you would be causing the very thing you would be preparing for.
In todays climate of shooting I would say it is the ones that buys only what they need to shoot that would be the individuals not conforming.

Last week Brass Badger had the local WM getting rem 235 on tue, win 333 on wed, they "said" they only got cci for the sale on 10/4-5/14. I had gone in at 0615, waited till 0730 till they LIED. Someone went to the sale on 10/4 and bought the win 333 ( 3 box) that they did not have. I have bought off the classifieds here and will continue to do so at 5-6 cents per round, the shipping is a trade off for time and fuel to drive 40+ miles to have them LIE. The CCI was for a sale, fine, but when I am working on 20 min sleep and they LIE to your face it is disturbing. So they can eat their ammo for all I care. Be Safe,

Of course it should. You want a police state where one is REQUIRED to explain their personal decisions? Where I come from, it is down right rude to intrude in one's personal life. I can choose to discuss my beliefs but should NEVER be expected to give justification. Would you ask someone why they give to a church when they can't prove there is a God? Would you go up to a stranger & ask why they are driving a $50,000 car as opposed to the Ford you drive? Would you ask a stranger any personal question & EXPECT an answer... just because it is a "simple question"?

And I would say that is your right to have that opinion. But keep in mind, what you say is simply your opinion. Doesn't make what you say correct.
I personally think there is a chance of a breakdown in society, chaos, in our future. I don't wish for that to happen but I choose to be prepared for it... if that day arrives. My ammo & guns are just a tiny bit of my preparedness. If that makes me crazy, then so be it. I live in a free country & have a right to make personal decisions that others might disagree with. I also have a right to tell those that question me to mind their own business.

,
& I would hope a forum that does not discourage differing opinions just because they may push the wrong buttons of some.
Touchy touchy touchy.
You sure do read a lot into three words.
That were not even to you.
The poster did not seem to take particular offense. This is a forum that can be read by anyone. I did not knock on his door or even call him up. Seems to me you are the one that would stifle ones freedom.

We've drifted pretty far off topic and nothing related to 1522 at this point. Reckon it's time to stifle the thread.
