Default 22lr suppressor question

We arent allowed suppressors in Canada. Im thinking about taking a trip to the states to shoot and buy some x-mas goodies.
Do indoor gun ranges have rifles with suppressors to try?
Also does the factory claims of 40bd reduction seem about right or way off?
Thanks for your help!

Your answer depends on the state you visit. The United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK has a huge outdoor range, and provisions for shooting suppressed and full auto firearms with their instructors. However, to BUY such items requires a United States Federal permit, and permission of law enforcement in the individual state. Some states prohibit them.

I personally don't own a .22 rifle suppressor, but listening to them shot at the range with subsonic ammunition, they sound about like a .22 air rifle, and can be safely shot without hearing protection (provided others are not shooting non-suppressed firearms at the time). Suppressors are common in Oklahoma, and are legal for hunting here.

You can find places to test them. But it'll take a little work ahead of time to find a Class 3 dealer & range combo that will let you test out suppressors.

You may be better off finding an individual that will meet you at a range with some hosts and cans.

~40dB is very realistic for 22LR.

Don,t know where you are in Canada, but Michigan is one of the border states where supressors are legal. As mentioned before, you would need to locate a class 3 dealer who also has a range or a resident who would meet with you and allow you to shoot his/her supressed weapon.
I believe that the Williams gun sight co. in Davidson, Mi. Is aclass 3 dealer and they have a shooting range.
Noise supression is very dependent on the gun/ammo combo. CCI mini mags are still loud in a supressed gun. CCI quiet in a bolt action rifle will be quieter than a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

Thanks guys, yes I know it varies state to state. Just like magazine capasity.
Im not looking to buy one, just want to try for mayself. The vids seem too good the be true. If anyone has seen the mythbusters episode using suppressors. The movies over exagerate the noise.
My guess is this is one of the reasons why they are prohibited here. Too many gun anyis think that just by adding a suppressor it makes the gun almost silent.
Thanks James bond movies!!!!!!!!!!

Sure can't go by what you see on TV or the movies. A suppressor can only suppress so much noise. The louder the bang from ammo... the louder the suppressed gun will sound. Since 22lr does not have a lot of bang, say compared to a .45, that makes it a good candidate for quiet shooting. Likewise, when shooting 22lr, HV Mini-Mag will be noticeably louder than Standard Velocity. The HV has more bang and even that relatively small amount of extra powder makes a real difference.

From all I've read, if you want to shoot quiet, 2 good options are what we do here (22lr) and 300 Blackout shooting subsonic. I shoot 22 suppressed so know from experience how quiet it is. When my stamp comes in on the Blackout, then I can state from experience how it sounds.

Years ago, I shot a suppressed M3 "Grease Gun" in a side match at a big
bowling pin shoot. The suppressor looked like an old design but it
worked well. When the gun was fired I heard the
230 grain FMJ .45s hitting the steel targets set up 15 yards downrange.
Not much else.

The shoot organizer also had a suppressed .50 cal rifle (made on a
German Anti-tank rifle.) It was so quiet we could stand around
without ear protection while he fired it.

Tried a .22 suppressor (owned by an MG dealer) more recently.
With CCI Quiet .22 the slap on the target board was louder than the
report of firing a round. The suppressor was pretty basic but worked
anyhow.

Do the supressors work at 40dB?

Yes!

I have visitation rights to my Silencerco Sparrow until mommy gubment approves my F4 and allows me to take full custody. I had a supervised visit with it at the dealer/range where it's being held pending approval...

Anyhoo, couldn't tell much in the range, as the echo was resounding...so...we took it outside...

Using Norma Tac-22 out of my 5" 15-22 SBR, I can tell you this - shooting it outside it sounded exactly like a guy on a roof, nailing shingles down with a pneumatic nail gun. The most noise came from the bolt running back and forth...

I wept.

It's awesome.
