36", unless you like dragging around an extra 6" of bag.
In fact, that is the exact same bag I use on my 15-22, in coyote.

Check the local stores to see if they have the same thing and factor in the shipping. I got one from Gander mountain for about the same price.

Maybe because you used the term "Assault Rifle" for a 22 rifle. Jus sayin.

Anyway, The bags from Midway USA are well built. I have the AR15 Range bag and it is very rugged. And the price they sell them for is very affordable. 36" bag will be the one you want to fit your M&P 15-22.

I picked up the SKB I series hard case. 2 carbine (bunk bed ) style with 36inch internal end to end.

Very sturdy and very well made.

I didn't know the M&P15-22 was an assault rifle. Does S&W make a M&P15-22 that is select fire.

It isn't an assault rifle, its all about terminology and semantics for instance the media certainly would class it as an 'assault rifle' an 'evil assault rifle' as well. We all know it isn't an Assault rifle or an Armalite rifle it is a S&W M&P 15-22, I suppose its kind of like me saying I transport my Les Paul in a guitar bag, yet neglecting tell you whether or not it was a Gibson or an Epiphone, you wouldn't know without a close look, sadly it is the latter
Furthermore all rifles, assault if you take the words literally.
But what's in a word? Personally I took the title to mean would a 15-22 fit in a case from Midway called an Assault rifle case and what size would be needed, as explained in his/her post.

MidwayUSA Heavy Duty Tactical Rifle Case. The MidwayUSA description title for the case on the link. The OP added the words "Assault". Assault or not. They are very well made bags that Midway USA offers.

When I first pulled that trigger, with a basic rifle w/irons, I was hooked and knew that all my initial fears and the ruger crowd staring vacantly shaking their heads were unfounded. The cash I have sunk into my pet project has been well spent...although on a budget, I am pleased with what I have added...For me though taking my Dad last November for a surprise shoot for his birthday at the range and seeing his face as the 15-22 followed the Anschutz into the firing point was worth every penny, what made it even better was my mum who drove us there and was only supposed to be dropping us off, ended up staying for 2 hours and between them assaulted the targets with great fun, my dad wouldn't let the 15-22 out of his hands though after a quick go on the much classier 'Annie' he demanded the 15-22 back
Priceless.

I saw an advertisement for a ' tennis racket style ' tactical assault rifle case, so while I was out one day I checked & sure enough it would fit in a regular tennis racket case if broken down & a padded one with a pouch for balls was $14.99 at WM.
I have a gym bag that works for me & besides I could just guess at the looks & comments if I walked into the range with a tennis racket case.

I just got this one. Unfortunately I got the 42" by mistake. It has velcro straps inside to hold the rifle, but it is a little to big. That being said. It is a VERY nice bag! Each side is about 1.5-2" thick. Great pockets, it's lockable. I will probably hold on to this one and order the 36" one.
