Defiantly NO on lower receiver. If you find the right customer service person, you might be able to weasel small parts (firing pin, FP spring, extractor etc.)

You can get lower recievers, maybe not S&W and that is the gun so you will have to fill out the paperwork all over again. If that camo is part of the finish you may be out of luck as well.

You cannot use an AR15 lower on the M&P 15-22. Can you explain how the lower broke on your 15-22? Even If S&W is willing to replace your lower under warranty or sell you one. You will still have to fill out the paperwork like you were buying a new firearm.

That is not necessarily true; as pointed out in one of the other active threads relating to missing serial number plaque:

This information can be found in ATF Ruling 74-20

Bottom line, call up S&W, ask for a return shipping label, and have them fix it.

Not so long back there was a thread advertising new rifles at $150. Just buy a new one. Ditch the broken lower once stripped if all useful springs and pins etc. Problem solved, new rifle and a bucket full of spares!!!

The lower is the receiver and that makes it the gun.
Generally you have to go through the same stuff as if buying a new gun to get just the lower.
Firing mechanism? The trigger group?
The mag catch is in there too.
I would send it back to S&W for warranty work.
Inquiring mind want to know how it broke.
You know, so we don't do the same thing.

Yep - we need to hear that story and if you have pics that would be a big bonus! Never cared for the cheap plastic AR 22's but also never thought a rabbit could break one!

Probably going to be cheaper to get a new one when they are on sale around/under $300 then sell the old upper assy on ebay for $200-250. But you might get lucky on warranty, not sure.

Preacher, you can buy a lower such as an anderson for short money, around here roughly $65.00, transfer everything over which is pretty easy and you are good to go. As a previous post said it will still be registered as a rifle though.

Good Luck

Pete

Yeah, not really a mercy kill if you have to beat it twice....another bullet or a knife would seem to have been the correct decision.

No you can't. The 15-22 lower and AR lowers are NOT interchangeable. There are several dimensional differences that make the swap impossible. S&W did that deliberately to prevent people from putting .223/5.56 uppers on the 15-22 lower.

Sounds like your friend owes you a brand new AR 15-22.

While I agree with you, just a nit pic ... There's no such thing as an AR 15-22. It's an M&P 15-22.

Might I say, if you shoot and wound a critter, shoot it again to finish it off.

I think your " Friend" owes you a replacement rifle, as an aside, get him to buy a baseball bat at same time.

That way, when he shoots and wounds a critter, you can BAT HIM as he moves to use your rifle as a club instead of a rifle.

Might serve to remind him that it's a Rabbit and not an enemy combatant, just as the Smith is made of PLASTIC and therefore NOT a combat weapon system used at close quarters when ammo is gone.

I Know that you guys find .22 hard to find but Geeeeez, 1 shot to wound then club to death? Is it THAT RARE to have 2 rounds of ammo???

Majorlk, not exactly. I would say that your statement is valid for 99.9% of the owners of the 15-22, however I do have a 9MM AR15 upper on my 15-22 lower right now and is what I am working on for my next project.

Interesting (confused, intrigued, skeptical)...

1) on my 15-22, the takedown and pivot pins are about 1/8" away from where they need to be for a ar15 upper to fit
2) unless you removed the 15-22 buffer tube, how are you planning on slowing down the 9mm bolt? I have a 9mm ar and it has a heavier buffer and spring and bolt. The 9mm has a bit more blowback than the 22lr.. A little spring ain't gonna cut it
3) what mag well block are you using? Any issues with wear against the polymer mag well?

Sithlord, the project is not complete so I can't disclose everything but I can tell you that there is no mag block and no buffer tube.

You may be able to fit a blow-back upper on the 15-22 lower, but not a regular .223/5.56 action upper.
