Changes to the MP 15-22 coming?
Hello fellas,
I'm shopping for a 15-22 and spoke with a couple local shops in the Pittsburgh area. Field and Stream store told me changes were coming for 2016 "retooling" he said, and another shop, Anthony Arms, said something similar. Has anyone else heard about this? Thanks!

Could be the proprietors are confusing the 15-22 with the change in the Sport to Sport II.

The Sport I was loosing market share to others who had extra features at the same price.
Maybe S&W thinks they might need to add those features to the 15-22.
Maybe we can have a useless FA on the 15-22.....
I have a dust cover on my AR.
Can't remember the last time it was closed...
I can't imagine that the fact that the 15-22 doesn't have one would be a reason to retool.

I have been looking for an M&P AR15-22 for a while on Gallery of Guns but they have been out for a long time. Today Jan 6, a quantity of 99 AR-15 22 Sports popped up as being available with an MSRP of $449. Looking at the specs, it shows M-BUS sights and threaded barrel with A1 style compensator and M-LOK rail panels. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember those features being part of the Sport in 2015. I just ordered one.
Please take a gander at the specs and let me know if I'm off base.

Looks like there is a M&P 15-22 Sport with a new rail:
M&P 15-22 SPORT SKU: 10208
Also a couple of compliant versions and a couple camo versions.

I went into a LGS today looking into getting a 15/22 PC version and they told me that S&W was making some changes to the 15-22 line and they currently could not get any for a month or so.

Perhaps the SHOT Show will provide some insight . . . I like the 15-22 as it is. Don't see a need for a dust cover, and I'm not sure you want a forward assist striking the rim of a rimfire shell . . .

From the S&W website it looks like the only changes to the 15-22 'sport' from the 'standard' 15-22 is the change to the handguard, which is a snazzy M-LOK version. I wonder if it is polymer, judging from the website it appears so.

It does look sexy.. I wonder if S&W would consider selling me just the handguard... Assuming, of course, the barrel nut is the same.. Because shelling out $450 for a handguard (and $1000 for everything else - optic, better stock, suppressor, ...) is just..... MEAN!

Sure, a forward assist would be double-plus-retarded on a 15-22, but why would the FA touch the shell? It doesn't touch the cartridge case in an AR-15, the pawl engages the cutouts on the bolt carrier.

They are probably trying to figure out how to make a performance center version. Hoping the guys will jump on the band wagon lol.
If its not broke, dont fix it.

I understand the operation. I didn't exactly organize my thought all that well, so your question is understandable. I don't want anything to be banging on a shell that's not quite in battery when the entire rim of the shell is the primer . . .

I just ordered one from Gallery of Guns. They had them on Sale. I don't normaly purchase from GOG, as their prices are high.
I wanted a 15-22 with mbus sights, and I was watching their MOE versions for one to come on sale.
I liked this sport version, I didn't care what kind of butstock it had.
Right now this thread is about the only place that has any kind of information on this new variant. I did call S&W and talked to one of their customer service people. They stated the basis 15-22 has not changed, just the furniture package.

I think your right I just got mine the other day and the dealer told me they were trying to get rid of all of their old stock.
List for mine was $515.00 (S&W list price) I paid $399.00.

Looks like they got rid of the rail on the bottom and sides and put something you can hold onto with your hands.

New M&P AR15-22 Sport
Yesterday I picked up the new M&P AR15-22 Sport that I have ordered through GoG. This is the new Model SKU 10208. It was the first one that my local dealer had ever seen and they were impressed, as was I.
The differences that I can see from the standard model:
- MBUS sights
- The new Magpul-type M-LOK 10" hand guard, and a 2" M-LOK rail panel that allows you to mount an accessory anywhere you want. It still has the standard rail on top. According to Magpul, they are migrating from MOE to the M-LOK system that has slots where you can put accessories about anywhere you want.
- There is a threaded barrel and flash suppressor that the standard version does not have
- The MSRP is $449 vs $449 for standard
Can't wait to shoot this thang as soon as the wind dies down a little bit here on the high mesa.

Thanks for the update.
What is the M&P AR15-22 Sport? I only see the M&P 15-22 SPORT in a few different variations.
The flash hider looks like the standard A2 style they have on all their standard barrels.
But not their (standard) or (compliant) models
$799 "down" to $449

Ar15-22
I was comparing the Sport to the standard model sku 811030. You are right, other models besides the Sport have the flash suppressors but the MSRP for those start at $519. I only see a couple of Sport versions for now, the new type I bought plus a compliant one and a camo version, but I couldn't find the camo in stock anywhere.

Does the new sport version still have the clip in cap at the end of the hand guard?

Certainly appears to. You can see the ends of the "tangs" that hold it in place in the pics just like the "old" version.

I bought one of the "new" MP 15-22s with the Magpul MLok rail.
The rail is plastic, comes with 1 picatinny rail section, and does, indeed, have a similar cap at the front like the older versions.
Magpul MBUIS sights come mounted up.
Otherwise, it appears to be identical to previous versions.

I ordered one yesterday off buds for 368 (new style sport) with free shipping. I also ordered the M&P 22lr Pistol from a local shop here for 284. Figured both will serve as plinking/training tools. I had the colt ar22 when it came out and it has been the biggest *** I have ever owned. I wanted to get another 22lr AR but was worried about the same issues I had with the colt. Glad to see everyone like the 15-22.

What is the difference between the sport and the performance center version?
And are they worth the $$?

Depends. If those are the parts you want on your 15-22, then yes.
Not knowing who's trigger they are putting in there or how much accuracy is improved over the standard barrel...I can't make a truly informed decision.

No, they will not.
But with all the aluminum AR free float or 2 piece hand guards available, why would you want that one?
Don't forget the MAGPUL flip up sights that come on the sport.

I believe it is the RRA two-stage trigger in the performance center version: https://rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?...ategory_id=294.

Because it would be easier/less expensive if it was a straight retro fit to older 15-22's. Also, no matter how light the aluminum hanguard is, I'll bet the Sport's is still lighter.
Not as cool but it would be a low cost option.

I just purchased my 15-22 at Old English Outfitters locally for 367.99. I swapped out the sights for Gen2 MBUS sights and a Bushnell TRS25 hi rise. Three days after I got it I went and threw 200 rounds at an outdoor range that had targets at 25,50,90 and 120 yards. It was awesome
