Default AR15-22 or M&P Shield 9MM

Little background info. I've got my CC and have a glock 19. I've not committed to carrying full time yet. Partly because I dont' want to carry the glock and partly because i'm still unsure. I've been looking for another gun. I had my sights on the M&P Shield 9mm but after shooting my old Winchester 22 this weekend, i'm really thinking about the 15-22. The other wrench is my plan is that i'm cross dominant, so I have to shoot long guns left handed. If I went with the 15-22, could i shoot a right handed model left handed? Thoughts on which to buy?

The two guns you're looking at present to totally different uses. One self defense and the other plinking. I'd say buy neither until you can figure out if you're gonna carry consistently. Shooting the 15-22 left handed is nonissue.

Pardon my ignorance but unless you wear a 'duster' like one of henchmen in 'Once upon a time in the west', how can you conceal carry a 15-22? With all of the handguns on offer, why would you want to?
Get to a gunshop or range and try a few handguns out that fit your needs.
Then buy the 15-22 because it is the most fun 22lr there is

Oh and on behalf of the forum members....it is not an AR. AR pattern but not an AR....it is....
Altogether Now...............a
Smith & Wesson Military and Police 15-22.

Sorry should have clarified my post. I'm not trying to carry the 15-22. I just can't decide whether i want to purchase another handgun or the 15-22 for fun.

I wouldn’t worry too much over this one. It doesn’t really matter which one you buy. You will soon buy the other one, and then another one and another one. The problem isn’t what you buy today. The problem is, the problem never goes away.

Decide what is more important to you. I carry my shield everyday. I don't leave the house without it.

The 15-22 was a good introduction to AR patterned rifles. My kids love shooting mine. It is currently residing at my anti-gun mothers house bcause there has been some suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Not the best choice for self defense, but it is what she is comfortable with so it's better than nothing.

Why not both?

Also, being cross eye dominant does NOT mean you have to shoot lefty. I'm cross eye dominant (right handed, left eye Dom) and have no issues shooting righty with open sights, scope or red dot.

If you have difficulties doing this, you can cover the left lens on your shooting glasses.

I have an eye condition that forces me to shoot lefty, even though I'm a righty. No big deal and never had an issue with brass ejecting. Matter of fact when I bought my Stag AR, I could have selected a left hand model but even then, stuck with a "normal" gun.

And BTW, I don't think we should be calling folks trolls or making a judgement they shouldn't own a gun. We all come here to learn no matter how much we know.

I haven't tried shooting glasses. I can't close my left eye, which is my dominant eye. Everything I read online said to learn to shoot lefty.

It is no big deal & if you are like me, and it sounds like you are, you have no choice if you wish to shoot rifles. The mechanics have become 2nd nature now, even though I do everything else righty. The only issue I've come up against is when I try speed magazine changes. For some reason, at that point my right handed nature takes over & I have to really concentrate.

Key is to just pick a gun/caliber you like to shoot... and shoot the snot out of it. For me, and I have lots of different guns, I always seem to choose the 15-22 for recreational shooting. It is cheap to own, cheap to shoot and gives me great training for my ARs. Put a suppressor on it & it is exceptionally quiet.
