Default For people with light triggers and light strike issues!!!

I found a post about light strikes and the 3lb timney trigger.
I have about 8-10 out of 25 round mag issues.
When I had the factory trigger. I had NO issues.
Now its 25%+ ftf.
The website said get a hillman group spring and swap out the factory fire pin spring. Leave your trigger alone!

O.D 7/32
1 5/8"
0.015 wire thickness
Cost was $1.86 for 2 Canadian.
OMG what a difference
Only issue I have now even using bulk ammo is the ammo itself.
Will now run m22, fed 525, dynapoint and bucket o duds
No problem!!!!!!!
Please please message me if you want more info.
What a simple fix!!!!!!!!

I did this mod with a different spring cut to fit some time back. The spring I used comes in 20" lengths. I have the Velocity Trigger 4lb drop-in trigger in my 15-22 and was getting light strikes on all brands of ammo, mostly on Euro brand ammo with their harder primer.

I've fired about 700 rounds down range with this new setup using 10 different type of ammo from bulk Federal Auto Match to Eley Match without any issues at all, not one.The Eley Contact and Force 42 grain ammo was giving me most of my headaches. I have pulled and slammed the charging handle about 20 times , dropped it, tossed it about 15 feet out and 10 feet in the air while loaded and not one slam fire. So I think she safe and good to go.

The Velocity Trigger is simply great, no creep and super short reset. Pull sets at about 3.8lbs now, prefect for me.

I was once I had about 1000 rounds down range. But here is the info on what I used and did.

McMaster-Carr Part #:9663K13
Specs: 302 Stainless Steel Cut-to-Length Compression Spring, 20" Length, .187" OD, .017" Wire Diameter.

I made the new string about an about 2 wounds longer then the stock spring.

O Ya the spring cost $4.95 plus shipping

I think I found the Hillman #9 spring at Lowes in a pack of 4. Struck out at Home Depot and Ace Hardware. The part number is different, but the package says Hillman and the specs are the same.

Hope to test it this week. I did the installation today and want to share what I learned.

In addition to the Hillman #9 springs from Lowes I ordered the McMaster-Carr Part #:9663K13 spring. They were in stock in Atlanta and arrived next day (I have no idea how a Sunday online order can be delivered on a Monday via UPS)

I did 2 tests. The outer diameter of the Hillman #9's rubbed the interior of the bolt. Neither the OEM or McMaster springs did this.

Now how to measure the spring strength? I took my 1000 gram digital scales and did a pressure test by pushing down against the scale tray with the firing pin in the spring until the tip of the firing pin touched the scale plate.

The stock spring was around 12 ounces

The fixed length Hillman #9 was 6 ounces

The cut McMaster was also around 6 ounces.

I thought both springs were too light for my stock hammer, so I cut another McMaster but made it one and a half the length of the OEM spring.

That one measured a little over 9 ounces and the one I'll be testing.

I recently swapped the trigger in my 15-22 for the 3lb Timney and am now getting a lot of light strikes. Only trouble is I'm in the UK and can't seem to find the Hillman #9 spring here. Don't suppose anyone could send me one and I could pay via Paypal could they?

Just a thought and probably not a good one, could the original spring be stretched a little and a coil or two cut off?

Thanks,

Phill.

I ran across your mod months ago with the McMaster spring and soon discovered someone on Armslist selling them (cut to length) out in Nevada. Roll Tide.

Could you try with the stock hammer spring in? There are custom spring makers in the UK that you can get made to order springs from, a quick google will prove that. I was going to get copies of the springs in my 15-22 but....meh aint broke...yada yada. All you need are the dimensions of the Hillman #9 an you can get a couple made over here. Just a thought. Either that or sell the Timney and get a Hiperfire 24C and never have another light strike ever again

Thanks for this. Is it possible to change the hammer spring in the Timney for the stock spring then? As its a drop in trigger it comes in a case of course. Will that increase the trigger pull?
