Hand guard question...
Hi all --
I recently purchased an M&P Sport (5.56/.223), and am replacing the factory hand guard with a Magpul M-lok carbine-length hand guard. When looking at the M&P15-22, the factory hand guard (quad rail) is different from that which comes on the 5.56 Sport. Is it correct for me to assume that this one can't be easily swapped out for the Magpul carbine hand guard?

You can, but you will need a special barrel nut tool and a 15-22 specific barrel nut adaptor.
Both of these can be found by good searching...

Over my head, as a newb, sithlord. Am I gathering that the barrel has to be removed, to switch to the Magpul M-lok hand guard? If so, it may not be worth it, cost-wise.
Here's what I found, that appears to contain (based on your answer to my question) what I would need to install the hand guard...

Is that correct?

Steve, it is not hard at all. This thread might help. Go further down in the discussion to see the step by step instruction.

Yes to everything.
The picture show several items, from left to right:
1) 15-22 specific Barrel Nut tool. This is used to install or remove the standard barrel nut on the 15-22. It's quite a bit longer than the picture shows, as it is longer than the handguard.
2 & 4) 15-22 Barrel Nut adapter, allows you to put on after market handguards.
3) Aluminum barrel blocks. The 15-22 requires that the barrel be locked down in order to tighten or loosen the barrel nut. Failure to do so may result in damage to the 15-22 upper receiver, rendering it useless.
5) Barrel nut adaptor installation tool. Comes with (2) and (4).
Amazon has these for half that price (look at the 'frequently bought together):
Tacticool22 is also on this forum, and you can order directly from him as well.

Just did mine, easy job except that I didn't tighten my vise enough & scratched the barrel getting the flash hider off, pay attention to that. I used the Magpul MOE handguard, not the M-Lok, but I think that installation is the same. Besides the package from Amazon, you will also need a M4 handguard cap, AR15 barrel nut which screws on after the Tacticool converter, & a Delta ring assembly. I used the barrel nut & delta ring for a Ruger AR556 - the delta ring is threaded instead of the standard spring loaded one - just a personal preference. Touched up the barrel & it looks fine; if you use the rifle, a few scratches are inevitable. Any questions, just ask...........

Wait, did you say that the MP15 that you just purchased is a 5.56, not a .22lr? Your first sentence says that.
And you want to replace the handguard on this 5.56 (essentially standard) AR?

The Smith and Wesson Military and Police 15 is an AR-15 clone and chambered in 5.56mmx45mm NATO.
The OP swapped the handguard on the M&P 15, and now wants to do the same with his M&P 15-22.

This is the only way to, was a piece of cake when I changed the handguard on my 15-22 PC (quad handguard). Personally I really like the handguard on the Sport. It uses MLOK.
