Default AR Optics 931240 Scope

I received this scope as a gift for Christmas. I was going to mount it to my Colt6920 but recently purchased the M&P15-22 and I want to mount it on the M&P. Scope has the 223/5.56 BDC reticle. I plan to target shoot out to 100 yards or less. Will I have any issues using this scope? What about recommended mounting rings? Both the Burris PEPR and the Aero Precision extended mounts have been recommended to me.

I'm a complete noob as far as scopes are concerned. But thanks for your input.

Ron

It will work, but you probably won't use the BDC aspects of the rifle scope, especially at 100 yards or less.

Yes, you can adjust your scope's cross hairs for both windage (left/right) and elevation (up/down) such that your Point of Aim (where the cross hairs are) matches your Point of Impact (where the bullet hits).

This is called 'Zero'ing your sights'. You are placing the cross hairs such that the POA = POI. If you alter the distance (ie, you zero at 100 yards, and then shoot at a target 75 yards away), the POA will not be the POI.

While the graphic below uses fixed sights, the idea is the same with a rifle scope.

Its actually a decent scope. Have one on my Ruger American rimfire and the parallax adjustment is great for precision. The BDC does kinda work, you just got to figure our what the yardage is for each mark on your own. (Thats the fun part )

Either of the one piece mounts you mentioned will serve you well. They will also give you the ability to move it over to your Colt without the remounting hassle of rings later on if you wish.

The areo mount is simply awseome. The clamp though twists the scope so you need to put the scope in canted and adjust for the twist to make level once tightened
