Default Customization

I know that the initial answer is that you can customize it however you want, that is the beauty of the weapon as well as the amount of rails that you have fresh out of the box…but at what point do you think that you have done too much to the weapon?
My co-workers have seen my gun and are already saying that I need to change the pistol grip, put a front grip with light on it…..but they seem to lose focus that this is nothing more than a fun gun/plinker. So the question stands, how much is too much?

You've gone too far when it doesn't work, you can't pick it up/and or you run out of money.

You will find your happy place when it comes to customization. I have a box of unused accessories to prove it!!

It was fun gettin' there tho.

Too much? Not sure....
In reality you do not need to add anything to the rifle...it works as it should. However.....there are a couple of things that you will need to maintain the rifle...barrel nut tool, vice grips but they are not add ons.

Personally for me...the addition of the hogue grip, the BAD lever and the 24C trigger, make my enjoyment of the rifle that much more interactive, the PT charging handle feels more substantial than the factory one, the AFG and Gas Pedal mean i can manipulate the weapon in a way more comfortable and repeatable and overall, like ctj50 said....it has been fun getting stuff and things. It is your rifle, do with it as you see fit...keep it factory with the original iron sights...and you will still have fun.

It all depends...can you live without upgrades?

Accessories... the top one has been my woods gun since the 90's (note the Fabien Bros. Mil Brake). The bottom one is my "backup" woods gun of which I sort of went overboard. Yes... I'm a wild one.

tcon Neither of those are 15-22's, i think the OP was about 'pimping' a 15-22 and the value in doing so on a .22lr as the OP put it fun/plinker rifle.

Those AR's don't look like fun/plinkers to me...i bet the animals in the woods don't think they are much fun either Love the look of stock on the 'overboard' one

15-22 should be a .22lr. "understudy/trainer" to your M&P-15 5.56

Who say's you got to do what your co-workers say ?
Listen to your inner gun self. You like it box stock...then shot it that way.
I got a Ruger 10/22 carbine , bought in 1973 , the only thing added was sling swivels.....that's the way I like it. Some of the junk people stick on their guns just leaves me shaking my head in utter amazement.

If your co-workers were that smart they would be the boss.

If I can give you only one suggestion put on a good grip. Hogue beaver tail fits perfect and is comfortable. Good trigger next but that is $$$. Next better butt stock either magpul ctr or hogue. Then tacticool it out with your choice of hand guard or just buy a sport that is m lock, so then you buy pic rail sections to mount what you have or buy again. Glad I went key mod and have to do the same thing

On a side note can we stop referring to our little carbines as weapons? They are precision rifles with standard capacity magazines

AKA a weapon..... Or piece, lead slinger, death device, doomsday maker, Noise maker whatever may have you but why cant we say weapon?

I'm going to leave the flip ups under a scope alone....

For me the build list was:
CMC 3.5lb trigger
Slide Fire Stock
Slide Fire Recoil Enhancer
Berska 3-9X40 CQB scope w/ .22lr BDC Dial
Magpul Flip Ups
Sure Fire Light
FAS-2 1" Light Mount
Solar Force light pressure switch
Plinker tactical 35 round mags and lots of them for slide fire
Salem 6 mags for hunting
Mag couplers for salem mags
KNS Sight Post replacment for magpul flip ups
GPS Forward Grip/Bi-pod
Mako Magwell grip

And I am awaiting the arrival of a MST Charging Handle.

The guns about done for now until I get the night vision and infrared setup going.

I have modded mine many times and have changed out almost everything I could. If I were building another, I would change out the grip, stock and trigger. I would also add a Vortex Spitfire 3x prismatic red dot. I think that would be about it. Who am I kidding? It would also get a bunch more stuff it doesn't really need.

,,,,
,,,,

From my experience the back up flip ups are useless with the scope on anyway & I have had the scope off & back on with out needing to adjust , but then I am just plinking with a plinker.
Not trying to build a range queen.
Just all day fun playing sniper for me & my Grandson, when I can find ammo.
,
Yes I did say playing , a cheap pack of army men set up makes for great fun & training.
& when I give it to him if he puts a bunch useless junk on it I will break it in half.
,
Where is your pic ? I would really like to see it

Because calling it a weapon is just giving the anti gun politically correct idiots more of a reason to go after something that we enjoy.

That reads exactly how I have one of mine set up:

Vortex Spitfire 3x
Magpul SL stock
Hogue grip w/beaver tail
CMC 3.5lb trigger

But it took a while to get to this configuration and a box of unused stuff

That's how I would build a third one. My rifle is wearing a Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock and G27 grip, a 12" slimline hand guard, KNS anti walk pins, Giessele SSA-E trigger, Next Level Armament Ambi charging handle, Volquartsen extractor and Bushnell TRS-25 red dot.

Hey shawnr5,

Where did you get that hand guard? The link posted takes me to a different item.

Thanks.

Me personaly, all I'm really looking to do is add a nice red dot, a bi-pod, and maybe a couple other personal touches. I may change the trigger down the road also, but we'll see.
